old promix is soggy - what to add?

Now you guys have me worried about pathogens.  I only have a stoop in the middle of downtown in the city, so I can't really properly compost it.  And I think I have too much to bake it in the oven, nor do I have an appropriate vessel.   It doesn't smell weird...   I'd rather not toss it out, but...

old promix is soggy - what to add?

I left my soil from last season in the pots outside since October. It seems like it's holding a lot more water than when it was new. It will rain, then stay soggy for a week +. Is that normal? It was mostly promix bx. I'm going to amend it with vermicompost and tomato tone. But, do I need to...

Does Sevin spray kill fungus gnats

You can cover the surface of your pots with sand, that works well. I've heard perlite works too.

    Grr....thrips

Spinosad is by far the best thing to use for thrips in my experience. Be careful, thrips won't show much damage to big plants, but will slow them down, and can absolutely wreck seedlings.

    Yellowing lower leaves young plants

Did you spray anything on the leaves? Mine can look like that if the stomata get gummed up with something like neem oil.

    annuum Jalapeno Variety

Not the hijack the thread, but I could really use a recommendation for a jalapeno or similar variety that: 1) tastes delicious (#1 priority) 2) isn't very spicy (Billy Biker is too spicy) 3) is a forgiving plant to grow 4) productive would be nice, but not essential This is for my girlfriend...

pics **AS ORGANIC AS IT GETS!!! W/ pics

Not to diminish your achievement, but if it is a super chili (and to me it looks like one) then these are just about the most forgiving variety of all time. You could put them in the cracks between the sidewalk and get fruit. If only they tasted better. Your plant looks great though and thanks...

5 gallon SIP vs 5 gallon bucket

They can work very well, but if you've never grown with one, making one from scratch and setting it up so that it's not too wet or too dry can be pretty difficult.

pests INDOOR Insecticide Aphids, Gnats etc. NO BEES were HURT!!

I grow indoors, and: for aphids, I've had good results after 2 extremely thorough applications of pyrethrin for thrips, I've had amazing results after 2 thorough applications of spinosad but for me, neither chemical works on the other pest, unfortunately Both are organic and have good...

Anyone using fox farm ocean forest?

Ocean forest is great, but it's probably worth mentioning that it's very easy, even for a beginner, to combine just a few ingredients to make a fantastic potting mix that is probably as good, but for half the price. You would just need a very large container to mix everything in. I use a $15...
