F1's sold by vendors that don't make sense

Personally i see everyone's point of view here. All of it seems valid, at least under certain circumstances. But on the same note, i think it's a lot of fun seeing how different F1 crosses turn out.   And, when you regrow them as F2, F3, are they really the same pepper anymore? And if not, what...

    AJI 2013???

Ahh, then it might be a Peruvian commercial, or "backyard" variety. If they dry it in the hot tropical sun, then it kills off a percentage of the seeds.   But like i said, there are so many types and lineages of Aji Amarillo in Peru, that you may never know which one it is, or if it's a...

    AJI 2013???

Hard to tell without seeing a flower but it looks like it's in the Baccatum family. Aji Amarillo's tend to be yellow but there are so many different types, and lineages i suppose, that i'm sure there are plenty of golden and orange-ish varieties.   Any background on where the seeds originated...

    Illumitex... hype or hogwash?

Sorry i have no experience with their products, but I couldn't agree more. $1300 for only 300 watts is a lot, even if the wavelengths used are perfect.   Try toggling the search feature to find Smokemaster 's posts in this subforum, he has a lot of experience with DIY LED.   Edit, almost forgot...

    Which will pepper?

I looked them up in Google Images, most seem to ripen to red, but i see some yellow ones in some pics.   A lot of websites say they ripen to red, i haven't seen any mentioning yellow ones.

favorite What is your favorite pepper in terms of taste (doesn't need to be super hot)?

For 2012 it was the Aji Chanca Yellow.   It has both a "Baccatum" and "yellow" flavor, so it was a winner for me. It holds the same flavor and crunch even when pickled. They are fast growers, it wouldn't be too late to start them, even in March. The hottest ones were no spicier than a serrano...

    Which will pepper?

Looks like the Czechoslovakian black pepper to me. The pods begin growing upright, then turn downwards as they get larger, purple markings on the flower.   http://peppermeister.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/czech1.jpg

    Which will pepper?

Some of us would be reluctant to say, since we aren't totally sure that it is a cross to begin with, and we aren't sure of the two parent varieties, we've been trying to make logical guesses.   Add those difficulties to the naming confusion that already exists, 5 different peppers all given...

    Which will pepper?

Cypresshill i don't know if there's a layman's answer to your question, some botanists may know. It would be interesting to find out.   But as for the results, there have been many Chinense x Annuum crosses posted in forums over the years, and the plants and pods tend to take on characteristics...

    Unknown - Red - Hot!

It's usually just the first pod in that particular spot that's dwarfed, but plants in small pots can throw out small pods as well.

    Fluorescent grow light, comparison test

Scratchzilla, your endorsement nearly convinced me, unfortunately i have to be price conscious for now, so i got this configurable 4-bulb T5 setup instead:   It's hard to see in the pic, but each tube has it's own narrow reflector, and it was hard to argue with $85 shipped.   A 250w HPS would...

    Unknown - Red - Hot!

It looks like a runt pod that normally develops at the first split, it may be impossible to ID because of that.   The flavor on those runts are usually off a bit too, the next batch of pods will hopefully surprise you in a good way.

    Fluorescent grow light, comparison test

All great links, thank you for posting them. I had read that fluorescent comparison a couple of years back, it convinced me to mix in a few GE kitchen and Bath tubes along with purple hue lights (red+blue spectrum)..   And since my 250w CFL order was mysteriously canceled, i'll now either pickup...

    grocery store pepper id

I didn't realize it at first, but there's a mild Aji Dulce that's shaped like the pods in the first pic: http://chile-forum.ru/index.php/topic,159.0.html   ^^ someone posted that link in another sub-forum last night btw, it's a list of mild Chinense types.

    Which will pepper?

Interesting pods, if it tastes good then i'd call it a keeper. Isolate a few flowers to prevent further crossing, and save some seed for next year.   Fatalii pods def have a strong smell when cut, imho. You may very well have a Fatalii + annuum cross.

    $80 T5 4 bulb 4 ft fixture

Good one Motorcity, let us know how it works out. And agreed with Lawrence, you can recapture a lot of lost lumens with reflectors, even if they are only white.   In the meantime, since i had a couple of higher powered CFL bulbs sitting around, i purchased this nice photo-softbox for only $18...

preservation Nice Mild Pepper For Pickling

Hot and or sweet banana's too, productive and very early.  They are awesome pickled in their yellow and red stages.   Not to mention they are hard to beat when roasted, fried, stuffed, or in salsa. It's easy to skin them too after they are cooked.   Agreed with Hophead, vinegar kills a portion...

Anyone using fox farm ocean forest?

It's the best bagged soil i've ever used.   Nowadays I cut it down with coco choir and other stuff, but I've used it straight for sprouts and transplants, never had a problem.   I always re-use the leftover soil in the seedling cups, mix it with fresh product, then throw it into the larger pots.

    $80 T5 4 bulb 4 ft fixture

It does seem like an excellent price for a 4-bulb T5, bulbs included. The kicker is 20,000 Lumens for $90 with energy efficient T5 bulbs, that is cheap. Anyone shopping for lights should really consider it imho.   I have plenty of fixtures but was on the hunt for a new one for some add-on trays...
