    Unknown pepper type

Welcome to THP :welcome:   The pic is a little small, but it still looks like it's in the Hab or Chinense family. It may not have been a mislabel btw, the original yellow plant could have crossed wth another Chinense in the field, and red is the dominant gene over yellow.   The only thing you'll...

    soil "Living Soil"..."Feed the Soil"..."Microbes"..."No Till"...yada, yada...

Yes, dried leaves. Cutting them up with a mower helps, but i bet that mixing them around to avoid a solid matt layer would help too.

    soil "Living Soil"..."Feed the Soil"..."Microbes"..."No Till"...yada, yada...

A few ideas and just thinking aloud here:   Can you get your hands on pine bark mulch? If so then look for brands that seem to have smaller pieces in the bag, you could fish out the larger pieces white sapwood. For bigger beds it would probably be cheaper to have it trucked in from a local...

Have you ever grown a pepper that was nasty? Which ones?

I've read that supposedly there is a  gene that causes foods like... cilantro to taste like soap to some people. If this is true, then it might be the same for certain peppers.   I hear a lot of people saying that certain Chinense's taste like some kind of petroleum product.

    greenhouse mislabeled caribbean red

Been reading a lot about wrong ID labels this year and last, almost always from big box store too, HD, Lowes, Walmart etc.   I hear that crosses are somewhat common with Bonnie plants too, but i know people reach for that cross-crutch a little too often, myself included.   Personally i'm not a...

    Chili Focus

No problem Spicytigger. Meant to also say that i've used both products.   The Espoma Tomato-Tone i've used for a few years, as have many others, it comes highly recommended.   I started using the Urban Farms Texas Tomato food more recently. As you can tell from the ingrediants label, it's a lot...

    Pure Vs. Hybrid

Trying to maintain purity has supposedly been an issue for quite a while.   I've heard from a couple of old timers that in europe, say 50-100 years ago, farmers were only allowed to grow the pepper type known to their local area. The pepper was  named after that town/city/region. This was...

    Chili Focus

I doublechecked their website, i don't think they come in a gallon size. Would you be willing to try something different (better)?   http://theurbanfarm.com/tomatomagic.html <-- 1 Tablespoon per gallon, the larger sizes are at the bottom of the page. Free shipping. Check out the ingrediants.  ...

    Diseased Jolokia

Since i always spray with at least two different sprays per season, that would be a tough choice. I know that Serenade works, and i know that copper-sulfate works, to my own eyes, they are rough equals.   I know you could spray to your hearts content with Serenade, you won't toxify anything even...

    Diseased Jolokia

To the original poster, that does not look like traditional bacterial leaf spot, and with the leaves being wet all the time i'll bet it's something fungal.   With fungal issues, copper is of limited use, a sulphur-based spray would work better. Some products combine copper and sulphur together...

I think I got an interesting mutation here

Another thing i thought of, what if the plants came from a cross a couple of generations back, and that maybe you received F2 or F3 seed. There's less variance as the generations pass, and things eventually stabilize.   I wonder if this "mutant" plant is closer to how purple crystals were...

I think I got an interesting mutation here

If it is a mutation, it's a nice one, and it should be perpetuated imho.   If it were me, i'd definitely hold onto a bunch of pods for seed, perhaps trade them away, but remind everyone that the plant may be a Purple Crystal mutant*.

    What's eating me?

Most Bacterial Leaf Spot is brown in the center and surrounded by yellow. You may have something else, possibly fungal, or even worse, viral. Might be insects too as suggested earlier.   If you already have copper spray, go ahead and use it, coat both sides of the leaves. If the problem gets...

Hot pepper last year, seeds grew sweet peppers this year

The originals you grew do have the wrinkly look of the Burpee F1 hybrid, which confusingly enough, has the name Cheyenne.   Your newer pods, which may be regressed F2's, have a smoother look to them.   May want to ask your friend where he got his seeds from.

    Need thick-fleshed, prolific pepper suggestion

^^^ Phil, I found the thread you were referring to, Everything about those pics scream Serrano's, except the larger size and slightly longer ripening time.   Are the plants productive?   Imho, since it is Serrano-like, and jumbo sized, that's reason enough to hold onto seed for next year. Thick...

    Need thick-fleshed, prolific pepper suggestion

Pickling, thick flesh , super early & prolific? Banana & Hungarian peppers, true workhorses. No need to wait for them to turn red, they are excellent when yellow. Mix them in with a couple of super-hots to jack up the heat level in the jar. They respond well to manure compost + ferts. I would...

    tomato ber and bottom splitting....

Ghostpepperstore is spot on.   This round of maters has BER and cracks, but as long as the watering remains consistent, then your next batch of tomatoes will be fine.

    baccatum Annuums...Baccatums...Best flavor?

For a couple of years i've been taking note of Baccatum flavor opinions and noticed the following: People seem to like the taste of Aji Limon, Aji Cristal, the larger peruvian Aji Yellow aka Aji Amarillo. I'm sure i'm missing one or two varieties, but those are the ones i remember.   And let me...

Newbie planning first garden next year.....tomatoes, peppers, and squash....OH MY!

Pretty sure Brandywine Sudduth is made for the Georgia climate. Not the heaviest producer but it's superior flavor is used to judge all others.   Another tomato that everyone gushes over is Kellog's Breakfast (i can hear all the housewives screaming " Delish!, Delish! " lol). An orange tomato...

Any idea what this mystery pepper is?

^^^ Looks like it really is a "Cheyenne", what makes it confusing is that there are two peppers with the name "Cheyenne", a long red, and this blocky orange.   Not sure if it's a specialty F1 cross. If it is, then the F2 seed next season may reveal the parent stock. But if it re-crosses with...
