My first functional Ebb & Flood setup

I just had the PH run away today. I had it down at 5.5 to 6.0 The PH today went up to 9. I buffered it back down to 5.5 What causes the PH to run away like that? Water is still clean and has no smell. I'm figuring the plants might be growing roots now.

leaf yellowing and some dropping off

Looks like to much water. My seedlings are in small containers. I purchased these with no bottoms. It allows am to see how much water there is. The pot has sufficient taper to hold the soil in. I can also see when I have roots. Do you have good size drain holes on the cups?

Sounds like you have them bad. I usually put 4 cards out a time. You just need to break the breading cycle.

    Ebson salt?

Probably not. But a little couldn't hurt. How hard is your water down in Long Beach? I bet it is pretty hard. Lots of minerals. Calcium & magnesium. For watering I only add 5ml (CalMag+) per gallon of RO water.

    Drying Peppers, making Pepper Powder...

Are you grinding yours too? I left all the seeds in the grinder. They were pulverized. I love how mine stayed deep red after drying. Most dried cayenne I've seen is almost purple after being dried.

    Ebson salt?

Why not just use CalMag plus or something like this? http://www.botanicare.com/Cal-Mag-2-0-0-P48.aspx This is what I use. Of course I'm using RO water.

    Drying Peppers, making Pepper Powder...

Well I ate, and used almost all my cayenne pepper I grew so far. I only managed to end up with 2 pieces that I dried. I'm starting small scale. I'm not planning on selling my powder, just using it. Here is my cayenne pepper plant. It is now out side awaiting a bigger pot. All these peppers were...

Does this look like mold? And what do I do?

I did not cut the bottoms off. I bought them that way from my local hydro shop. He sells a lot of them. I will transfer them the a 5 or 6 inch square pot till they flower, from there to a 15 or 20 gallon pot. Only these seedling pots are like this. The rest have holes for air pruning. I reuse...

    Fungus Gnats Are Killing Me!!!

I use sticky traps. This is about one week. I place them in the container next to my plants at the height of the container. The bugs just fly into them. Works for me. Every time I water the bugs come out and get stuck to the trap.

Does this look like mold? And what do I do?

Here are the pics I promised. Here is the temp & humidity in my garage. Numbers on the left are current. Numbers on the right are highs & lows from the last 24 hours. Here is one of my peppers in a small container. I compact the Sunshine #4 into the container. I then pre wet the soil. In...

Does this look like mold? And what do I do?

I have a fan 24x7 on my seedlings. It is on about 4 feet away. Just a steady breeze. Just to keep the air moving. I wouldn't worry to much. I don't use bark based planting soils for this reason. I use Sunshine #4. Peat moss & Pearlite. My seedling pots have no bottoms on them. Water can just...

Anyone using Solar to offset their electricity?

I originally had solar installed to offset my high electric bill. This is before I had any grow lights. Now I am really glad I did. Here my grid-tied system is producing 2.2KW of power at about 10am. 90% of it is back fed to my power utility. Anyone else have solar power? It was the best...

My peppers are shriveling up and dying

I don't think it holds enough water. Try something with peatmoss and pearlite. I use Sunshine #4. It wioek wonderful. http://sunshineadvanced.com I have tried the cactus type potting mixes, they suck! Even my cacti will not thrive in the bark stuff. The bark gives it a lot of air, but not...

    Fruit flys

Here is one of my sticky traps after a week. It is double sided. I'm only using one side at a time. Here is how I place them in order to catch the bugs. I place it in the corner making sure it does not stick to the plant. No plants were harmed during this photo shoot.
