Well I figured, after watching your double dig video, that it would be best to do it also.

hooda's Grow 2012 - Rise of the Clones

Yeah you know you are right. I think I might be letting this article I read on San Diego gardening influence my judgement too much, which was really informative, but I really should just have the full test done. I'll look in to it tonight. Thanks.

hooda's Grow 2012 - Rise of the Clones

The only thing I have gotten to is breaking up the soil a bit more at the final depth and have added a bit of compost ands other organic material. The only test I have are the cheap ones for soil, since I haven't looked in to a full test yet, or really know if it'll make that much difference...

hooda's Grow 2012 - Rise of the Clones

They are not in the ground yet but I'm working on the garden area all week. I have dug out an area 25 x 13 feet to a depth of 2.5 feet and currently working on amending the soil now and filling it back up. I didn't get any shots yesterday of the total depth but here are some in progress shots...

To till or not to till?

Yesterday I got down to an area that I couldnt get the spading fork more than an inch down. Lightly watered the area and had a beer, went back at it and could get about half the fork down in it. Works for me.

To till or not to till?

Soak the area with some water, it helps a lot.

To till or not to till?

Well I'm going for the long haul, tilled the first foot or more, and now in the process of digging out the clay soil for a total depth of 3 feet. I have pictures already but I'm going to add them to my glog on the next update. Going to have a couple cubic yards of organic compost plus castings...

To till or not to till?

I too have clay, and just got done tilling out about 600 square feet. Took me about 3 hours to till out that area to about a foot and a half in depth. I still have some more depth to go for the garden area but it's a great start and saved me probably over a weeks worth of time if I had done it...

    Giant Cabbage?

Well I didn't grow this and don't plan on growing them but I have to share this picture. This is a cabbage pile at the local farmers market, these things are bigger than a basketball. The coffee cup in the picture is a medium size, for reference. I was pretty blown away by these.

hooda's Grow 2012 - Rise of the Clones

Yeah there were cardboard inserts for keeping soil in place, worked pretty good. I have the plants mostly getting indirect sun for the first couple days and I have started to give them more direct now.

MGOLD86's GLOG, of sorts. NEW Billy Boy Douglah Review!

Looks great! Hope I can get my areas built up as nicely as yours. Most of my plants will be going in to the ground (asap) once I prep the ground to my liking. I'm a bit behind to where i should be right now with plants in ground, but hey it's CA out here so i have a long grow season, so I'm not...

    Pinoy83's Continous Glog 2013

Kellogg might work out alright for you with your climate. So far my experience with it is that it stays really wet for a long time even with a lot of perlite in it. I have a hard time with watering it because even when it feels light, it seems like I still have over watering issues with it. I've...

Yeah they are pretty picky. I've been giving them General Hydroponics Cal-Magic, but I am watching them a lot closer than the others. I'm sure they will turn out in the end but we'll see. Matt.. I can't wait!
