    Need help with this plant!

That definitely is not a cayenne plant. Cayenne doesn't have fuzzy stems or leaves. The leaves are also the wrong shape to be a pepper plant.

10 gallon utility tub used as pot ?

I'd give them a shot, why not? I've used 10 gallon totes from walmart before and they seem to hold up really good to the weather. Really what do you have to loose, even if they only last a season or 2? In the past I have had 5 gallon buckets break after spending some time through the winter, but...

Attempt to separate these 3 orange habs?

Your best bet is to pick the healthiest and cut the smaller 2. If you decide to go the other route, separate them using water to wash away the soil and gently separate them then. Speaking of soil, the surface of your soil looks like it has some built up minerals / salts. You may want to flush...

Need some help with 400W systems

I don't think it really is a big deal that there are no disconnects separating the ballast from the socket, ect, I personally don't have the desire or need to be constantly connecting / disconnecting those components. Just plug it into the wall and go. I do agree that the included hood isn't the...

Need some help with 400W systems

First off you might want to check out High tech garden supply. They have a really good ballast setup that is pretty solid and is a bit cheaper then the one you have found. Here is a link to their 400w offerings: http://www.htgsupply.com/growlights.asp?categoryID=1&subcategoryID=155&typeID=55 I...

    I don't understand it...

Some of the guys I work with are scared of the red jalapenos because jalapenos are green and that's it. "No way I'm trying those, they are one of your crazy hot peppers!" It really is hard to convince them other wise.

    Pepperfreak's 2010 Season kicks off

Your plants are looking really good. I can't wait until I can start to bring some of my plants outside. It still isn't quite warm enough yet, but soon it will be. Thanks for sharing your grow room, it has given my a couple of ideas.

    Tomatoes in containers

I use the 18 gallon totes, they are pretty cheap, and My tomato plants seam to do really well in them. In the past I have tried smaller containers, but the plants didn't really reach their full potential like they do with the 18 gallon totes.

pests Pests ..need help with ID and Treatment

Those are aphids, the best treatment for them is to buy a bunch of ladybugs and let them devour the wicked little things.

    Plant in pots or beds?

I've been growing in containers for years now, and like Potawie, my container plants out perform any plants in ground. It really helps that I can bring them in on cooler nights, which allows me to extend my growing season. For containers you will want to plan on using pots that are 5 gallon...

breeding Ordered from Cross Country Nurseries

I don't think you need to go through as much trouble hardening off the ones from cross country nursery. They should be already used to being in sun light, just really keep on eye on them, and maybe put them in a semi shaded area at first. They will probably be a little stressed from shipping, so...

breeding Ordered from Cross Country Nurseries

They will be fine indoors under lights. Another thought is if it is staying warm outside during the day, you can always put them out in the morning and bring them back in at night. I do this with a lot of my plants especially later in the season. It is one of the advantages to growing in...

    Is this a problem?

If there isn't any insects on them then I'd say it is light related too. From the pics I only see overhead light, the plant will probably start dropping the lower leaves as they continue to get less light. Most of my plants have already dropped most of the lower leaves because of this.

fertilizer Too many fertilizer choices, please suggest one or two basic types

Espoma plant tone or tomato tone works good, I used it for years. The only downside is it is a slower release. I have since moved on to the Botanicare pure blend pro grow formula, huge difference, my plants really took off after I started using it. You might want to look to see if you have a...

what size pot help for new grower

I wouldn't rush into putting a pepper into the 15 gallon pot. I'd save that one more for a 2nd year plant (Overwintered) and pot it up to that towards that spring. For 1st year plants 5 gallon is really good, you can pot up to a 7 - 10 gallon, but it's not necessary. For second year plants I'd...

    P. Dreadie's 2010 pepper list

I have 2 of the St. Barts growing this year. They are coming along nicely, they actually need to be potted up. I have a bunch of plants that need to be potted up but didn't get to it last weekend. Isn't that the way it always goes, I will definitely have to get to it this weekend though. I'm...

    JUST A FEW QUESTIONS.....

I don't bother pinching the flowers, but instead will pinch off any pods that set until the plants are "big" enough. Why just the pods? Well first I don't have a lot of time to pinch off a ton of flowers, second the plant will do the work for you, as most of the flowers will drop anyways, so why...

what size pot help for new grower

1 gallon pot as a final pot size is not a good idea. Yes it will grow and yes you will get peppers, but your plants will be stunted. You also wont get very good yields from them. At a bare minimum I would go with a 2.5 gallon pot, with 5 gallon being a way better choice. From there you can go to...
