    Strange Purple Jalapeno

I bought some purple Jalapenos seeds during early summer, and because I'm crazy I started a bunch of seeds early, just to try them out. I was trying out a few "new to me" seed companies and wanted to test germination. Well I have a basement corner filled with various hot peppers and they are...

    Member's Question Spotlight...

Ok, here I am.... This came out of no where but here it goes :paste: 1. Why did you choose your screen name? Matt Berry was a name that I made years ago (early 90's when it was nothing but dialup) and I don't know it just kind of stuck... Real name Forest and no it's not Gump. 2. Why did you...

overwintering Going to lose my overwinter project without some help

Since you said it is still kind of warm outside in the 40's. I'd take them outside and hose them off really good. It is easier to spray the plant outside then it is in the tub. You need to do this while you still can. A few spray downs should help reduce their numbers significantly. Just...

    What to grow next year?

This year it was Serrano - good flavor, hot, but small pods Caribbean Red - Great flavor, very hot, lots of pods Of course I've started a bunch more new varieties to give them a try, but I haven't had any ripe of those yet so I can't comment on them yet.

    breeding Cross Pollination Questions

Another method is to grow them in containers, bring that plant inside, grow it under lights until a few pods set, mark them and put it back outside. Then it is isolated with out the trouble of tea bagging and such.

    Oh no! not good?

Uh oh, danger danger, that is a definite aphid sighting there. You must act quickly to destroy these, either call in an air strike, send in the ground forces or just nuke the whole area. Translation - Buy ladybugs, or Start smashing them with or fingers, or start bring in the neem, or other...

    Probable Wind Damage?

It actually is starting to remind me of what happens when you apply too much nitrogen / fertilizer. I say that because of the curling and deformation of the new leaves, plus they already have a very dark green color.

    yellow leafs ?

You are in Michigan, so I assume this plant has been indoors for a little while. Are you trying to overwinter it? Meaning was it outdoors all summer and you just now brought it in? It also looks like you just have a curly CFL as a light source, that isn't really that much light compared to the...

Barrackpore 7 Pot Global Grow Log

Yeah, I'm just hoping that I don't run out of room. I have about 25 on the floor in 2.5 gallon pots, and another 25 or so in the 6" pots. A lot of them are already flowering and setting pods, I wasn't really expecting them to flower as much under the metal halides as most people say you need HPS...

Barrackpore 7 Pot Global Grow Log

Yeah, that is a small peak into my basement jungle. Those are all my small plants on the table. You can catch a small glimpse of my bigger plants on the ground (at the bottom of pic). The few leaves you see are of a limon, I took a bite of one of the young pods and it was surprisingly hot. I'll...

Barrackpore 7 Pot Global Grow Log

Looking good boutros. I like seeing your plant since gives me an idea where mine is headed since yours is just a couple of weeks older then mine. Mine is just starting to branch out and flower. It's kind of hard to tell in my top picture, but in that blurry mess is the 2 growing tips, and a...

Barrackpore 7 Pot Global Grow Log

During the first part it spent a lot of time outdoors, but since it got colder it's been enjoying life under the metal halides. Soil and fertilizer are not the premium stuff most people here use. Warning the following post may be inappropriate for some viewers, discretion is advised...

Here is my update for my 7 pot. I was waiting for the flowers to get a little bigger, but since blister posted I figured I should too. It is currently in a 6" pot. Look closely to see the flower buds Here it is with a pencil for comparison.

    Recharge the Dirt

The downside to adding manure is it also adds to the weight. Personally I'd add some pine bark fines or pine bark mulch that isn't huge chunks, mix in some fertilizer, bone meal / what ever and use that. You could also buy some fresh potting soil to mix in, but it really isn't that big of a...

    Pollination & Temperature

Night time temps can make a difference with flower drop, but you will still get pollination when temps are below 65. If they didn't I don't think I would have had any peppers this year as our summer was so cold. When night time temps start getting below 55, that is when you'll start having...

Regarding the pinching off of buds...

I pinch buds / remove pods, but I only do it up to the point I feel the plant is large enough to sustain a good crop. So it isn't a set day, it is all about size. Pinched do seem to get bigger then non pinched.
