disease-pests Embryonic Leaves Yellowing, True Leaves Curling Upwards

Two questions: what method do you use to water and what are you using for food?

disease-pests Embryonic Leaves Yellowing, True Leaves Curling Upwards

Thanks, that's good to know. I guess with my setup and environment moisture tends to stick around. I repotted the 14 worst looking plants by taking out the subpar 1:2 perlite/soil mix and replacing it with just soil mix. Another issue I had with these first ones is I didn't compact the soil...

disease-pests Embryonic Leaves Yellowing, True Leaves Curling Upwards

Thanks, hopefully it's that simple. I've been giving it like 4-5 days between watering sometimes, but I guess that's not enough. Maybe it's the ton of extra perlite in those cells that's doing me in.

disease-pests Embryonic Leaves Yellowing, True Leaves Curling Upwards

Right now I have several plants from ten different varieties at different early stages of development. This is my first foray into growing vegetables and I've come to a hurdle. Look at this comparison picture:     The plants on the left are Trinidad Scorpion Morugas, on the right are Cayenne...

    glog Umbra's 2016 GLog: 0 to 100 Real Quick

We're going to jump a month forward here because, well, frankly I didn't take many pictures. I figured a bunch of pictures of seeds sprouting and infant seedlings that all look alike would be pretty boring, so here's a quick summary.   Over the past few weeks I've been sprouting, planting, and...

plant-care First time watering in months

How cold is too cold? I think the coldest it would see is maybe high fifties in the dead of night. Typically it's 65+. I only gave it 8 oz of water. I think I'll wait until I see the leaves start to droop before I give it another 8, unless anyone has a better suggestion

    glog First ever grow

Best of luck! What are you using as a potting medium there, peat? Interested to see how it turns out.   This is also my first time growing and I have a similar setup. I'm a week or two ahead of you with some of my plants, so maybe you can learn from any mistakes I make along the way...

    glog Umbra's 2016 GLog: 0 to 100 Real Quick

Thanks guys   I had a couple of grow incidents this week. A few days back I noticed a few tiny bugs flying around the room. I checked the plants and saw them hanging around that area. I took a closer look at them, did some googling and deduced they were probably soil gnats which are...

plant-care First time watering in months

Thanks guys. I tried pulling it up and the dirt that the roots had been holding fell apart. I also poked around at the bottom via the drainage hole and couldn't feel any moisture, so I dumped in an 8 oz glass of water all around the base of the plant and after a day the leaves have...

seeds-germination A photo guide to how I removed stuck seed caps.

I do realize this post is five years old, but it was one of the top hits when searching Google for "seed stuck on seedling".   I want to thank Beaglestorm for the great idea of using surface tension for precise liquid application. I took it a step further and used a plastic drinking straw...

plant-care Controlled Growth vs Dormancy in the Winter

Thank you. I attribute my quick germination rates mostly to the regulated ~83F temperature. That's not how nature works, though. If you're conditions are cooler I'm sure they'll get there, it'll just take a little longer. Check every couple days to make sure the medium is moist. I also soaked...

plant-care First time watering in months

I have a ghost pepper plant that I had planned on letting it go dormant for the winter, but in its current position it gets enough sun and warmth that it's slowly forming new growth. It's got nice little green leaves at the base, but I realized they have begun to droop. I'm almost positive this...

    glog Umbra's 2016 GLog: 0 to 100 Real Quick

I recently signed up here because I had one Bhut plant I was trying to keep alive over the winter.  Fast forward a few weeks and now I'm in the process of growing ten varieties and possibly up to 72 plants in my bedroom. What could possibly go wrong?   This whole thing started with the one plant...

plant-care Controlled Growth vs Dormancy in the Winter

If all I have left to survive on is a few seed packets I'm screwed. :P   I'm going to be making a Grow Log, but this bit of info is pertinent to this thread. After only ten days 2/8 of my questionable Bhut seeds have sprouted! They might have sprouted a day or two ago, but I hadn't checked.  One...

tutorial Growing Hot Peppers Guide + FAQ

uh you can keep them warm if you want, for a little bit until they get all settled and start growing more roots... the dome is really only for germinating. if you use dome after they sprout you can get damping off which will kill the seedling. Thanks for the clarification. In the "1st...

tutorial Growing Hot Peppers Guide + FAQ

I've been germinating seeds on a heat mat. Some of them have begun to sprout and I'm going to plant them in seedling cells. I know light is crucial for the next step, as is watering. I'm going to use the humidity dome over them early on (leaving it off for a few hours a day for air). I'm unsure...

seeds-germination Airflow and Temps During Germination

That's actually a pretty solid idea. I think I have one somewhere too. If the thermostat craps out it won't cook the seeds if I have it set up right.   I sent you a PM

seeds-germination Airflow and Temps During Germination

I know you never said trade; I didn't mean to put words in your mouth. It's just in this day and age it's rare to find people who would offer something for nothing in return, but maybe this community is just full of generous, helpful people. I'd graciously accept some seeds if you have some...

seeds-germination Airflow and Temps During Germination

That's good to know. I'm interested to see what the temperature is above my refrigerator (it's relatively cold area). That does tell me that a constant temperature is probably okay. The reason I asked this initially is because the Redwood City Seed Company's site suggests 80-85F during the day...

plant-care Controlled Growth vs Dormancy in the Winter

Thanks for the heads up. That branch held the single pepper until I plucked it. It serves no purpose now, so off it goes. I got some "die back" (I think it's called) from when I pruned it before bringing it in. Should I try to cut some of this away, or is it like a scab at this point and should...
