    Sulsa's 2022 grow log

Nice grow! With regards to the Cayenne, my money would be more on just variation within that line vs accidental wind pollination through mesh bags. Of course nothing is 100%, but the pollen must have made its way from a nearby plant, get through the mesh bag (which is still a physical barrier)...

seeds Extremely old (80 years?) seed germination question

What do you mean? There's a full study in the thread that was attached which goes in extensive detail on the procedure + results. The numbers are there.

seeds Extremely old (80 years?) seed germination question

Would be interesting to see the progress on this one. I've been able to germinate 10-year old seeds using h2o2, and the science to back this up is in this great post by @CaneDog https://thehotpepper.com/threads/hydrogen-peroxide-h2o2-and-seed-germination.71125/ I've also been able to...

Next to My Chair - Bowls of Bonnets

Just dropping this here since we were discussing how to support plants in 5 gal kratkys a couple of years ago: This seems like an elegant solution. I wonder if it's any good in practice....

    They're called grow bags! :)

    HeatMiser's 2022 Glog

Quick update - Interestingly enough, all 3 Carolina Reaper seeds I sowed last week have sprouted. I haven't gotten a hook from any of the other varieties which were planted a week earlier. I usually keep one seedling and cull the rest from the rockwool cube. However, this time I wanted to see...

    PaulG 2022

Your plants look awesome Paul, especially considering the super wet weather we've been having this year. May got twice the average rainfall in my neck of the woods, and we already broke the average for June barely a week into it.... How long do you harden off your plants for?

    HeatMiser's 2022 Glog

OK, it's done Zapotec Jalapeno: Lemon Drop: There are some things that I still have to figure out, like better support. @Uncle Eckley - I might borrow the cage/bungee approach. Also, I don't plan to refill the bins, but I might depending on how far into the season we are when they start...

    HeatMiser's 2022 Glog

Nice! I have two 32g Brute bins that I ended up not using anymore after the move. So I cleaned them up real good and now they will serve as Kratky barrels in hopes of getting some of that same production you talk about. I'm really thrilled about a big ass plant producing hundreds of pods, and I...

Yeah, I really hope we turn the corner soon, fishing and bbq-ing have also been affected by the weather, and I don't appreciate that.... Yup, those are 5g strainers for the most part. Last year I used the small organza bags and didn't like them because only a few of the flowers I picked...

    HeatMiser's 2022 Glog

Well, the weather has been a little unpredictable in my neck of the woods. It's been raining a lot, and we get some breaks in the weather every now and then, but overall, it has been super wet. The plants are resenting it and some of them don't seem to be enjoying being outside. Here's how...

    HeatMiser's 2022 Glog

I'm having mixed results with the plants outside so far. Annuums and Baccatums are doing great, while Chinenses and Pubescens got some sunscald. I'm sure they will recover, but that's something to consider for next season. Anyway, I haven't posted much about these two monsters - my Zapotec...

    HeatMiser's 2022 Glog

Hey CD! Yes, I can relate to being out of room and patience. This year it was particularly so because we put up a few raised garden beds and I started A LOT of old tomato seeds indoors. These were 10-year-old seeds and I thought I wasn't going to get good germination. Boy was I wrong - ALL of...

    HeatMiser's 2022 Glog

Yeah, the rocotos seem to be doing fine so far Paul. I'm really looking forward to trying them later during the season. Weather-wise, it's been a super wet and cold spring, and the plants were already getting too big for their pots, so I'm glad the night temps are finally decent to leave these...

    ChilliCrosser Crosses

I've been following your glog and you have some pretty amazing stuff here. Hopefully you end up getting that stripey Brazilian Starfish - results look promising so far! I have one question though - for your mini-kratky - how do you keep the plants from getting too big? With the amount of plants...

    HeatMiser's 2022 Glog

OK, seems like we have good weather now. The peppers are outside: I must say I'm a little anxious about the mix, which is 7 parts Peat Moss, 2 parts Perlite and 1 part Worm Castings. I only realized the Ph of Peat Moss is acidic after they were potted up, so I've added some lime in hopes...

That's what this one is too. It's even hairier than the Pubescens I'm growing at the moment.

Looks good Paul! Hopefully we'll be able to move our plants outside soon.... the weather has been really iffy in our neck of the woods.

media Peat - is Lime really required?

Well, Ph test came back at 4 or below. So will definitely need additives in order to raise it a bit.

    nutrients CNS17 discontinued?

I'm soon going to run out of my favorite nutrients, and Amazon doesn't carry it anymore. The Botanicare website only has the Safety Data Sheets, and seem to be pushing their Pure Blend line of nutrients, which are 50% more expensive than CNS17 at the same concentration (15ml/gal). So, I'm...
