lighting How do you guys automate your growlights?

I use several different timers inside and outside. The latest one I've tried and really like is the Kasa Smart Outdoor Plug KP400: https://www.kasasmart.com/us/products/smart-plugs/kasa-smart-wifi-outdoor-plug-kp400 It was only $25 US from Amazon.

    seeds Where to buy seeds

I buy scotch bonnet seeds from Refining File Chiles (superhotchiles.com) and Texas Hot Peppers (texashotpeppers.net). I've never been disappointed.

lighting Picture of our seed starting rack with questions...

^^^ Yes to both. I use both types, though I only use the reflective insulation outdoors with Kratky buckets. But either one should work nicely for you.

    vendor TexasHotPeppers

Grew MOA Scotch Bonnets, Inca Red Drops, Lemon Spice Giants, and Coyote Zan White (a new favorite), all from TexasHotPeppers this year. As usual, all germinated without problem and grew true to type. This remains one of my favorite seed sources. Thanks Garth!

favorite What is your favorite Baccatum Chili and why?

The pods almost never come away clean; so I guess the answer is 'no'. I've been to Manteo many times over the years, but didn't know about the 'Mother Vine'. It'll be on my to-do list for my next visit (hopefully next month).

favorite What is your favorite Baccatum Chili and why?

Not sure if it is deciduous, I don't over-winter my plants, so have never observed their full year habits. As far as taste goes, to me the fully ripe pod has a slight Scuppernong Grape taste when I first bite into it. But hey, I'm the guy that thinks most of them have a soapy taste!

    preservation Drying frozen peppers?

Only done it once, and it seemed the same. But I suppose that depends on how they were frozen and for how long. I had "lightly" vacuum packed the peppers and dried them within a couple months of freezing.

favorite What is your favorite Baccatum Chili and why?

Inca Red Drop. Sadly, it's the only Baccatum that doesn't taste like soap to me. And I've tried quite a few.

    Coyote Zan White

It's a massive producer! I've been picking ripe pods for the last couple weeks.

    Coyote Zan White

My first year growing this, but probably not my last. To my palate, it has excellent flavor, texture, and nice heat. Scoured the internet looking for info on its origins. Found that the late Massimo Biago, an Italian professor is credited as being the creator of this hybrid under the name...

smoking HOW DO YOU SMOKE YOUR PEPPERS?

I've only smoked peppers a couple of times, but they always turned out well. I did it on a converted Smokey Joe with Peach wood chunks (my personal favorite). I only smoke them for 2-3 hours with the temps around 215F. Then I put them into a dehydrator until they are completely dried out.

    chinense Best Scotch Bonnet??

I personally prefer MOA over Freeport bonnets. IMHO they have better flavor and have more flesh (probably at least in part owing to their Ministry of Agriculture status). I actually prefer MOA over all bonnets, with P.Dreadie coming in a close 2nd place.

water What is the best type of water to use for the pepper plants/seedlings?

@OP... If I was using tap water in Naples, I would at least let it sit out and out-gas for a while before putting it on my seedlings. Maybe even overnight.
