seeds Seeds last longer than I thought

Do most of you choose to store them in an air tight environment? I'm always paranoid about locking in moisture etc.   I've been folding them into coffee filters and labeling them like that. Not enclosed but kept away from moisture.... I'd imagine that would be more than enough considering how...

    pests Aphid killing army

Yea, we had a ton of them growing up. The holes and the color of it is a give away. Looks old and already hatched out. They definitely come out of the side there where those holes are.

    Pepper ID

Bud of mine posted these on FB wondering what they were. Thoughts?   Figured it was a long shot and these aren't the best pictures. The plant is growing in between some pavers in a house they just bought.

    Inconsistent tomato setting...

I'm adding tomatoes to the mix of peppers i normally do. All cherry varieties.    I have a few sets of flowers/fruit/clusters that have 2-3 out of 5+ blooms that are actually setting tomatoes. Does a healthy tomato cluster all develop at the same time or from the stem out like I'm seeing...   ...

    shade Shade Cloth

Yea i have a partial shade area that I use for hardening off but this would be a potential project for a caterpillar tunnel. Rather than plastic I would use 50% shade cloth for the reduced temps and bug protection.   I read about the potential air flow issues but as long as I have a decent...

    shade Shade Cloth

Been scouring through google and have come across multiple answers on this...   The big question! Does shade cloth cut down usable light?   I've read that it will reduce the UV (damaging portion) from light and reduce heat by ~10 deg but the plant still receives the full spectrum of light as if...

    Pot size

Great responses everyone.   I was pretty certain that I'd only use the 5 gals for one season but started wondering about multi season as a bonus.   What i will probably do is refresh the 5 gals in the early spring each season. Basically dump last seasons bucket into a wheel barrow and mix it up...

    Pot size

Hopefully a quick and easy one. I have raised beds this season and also started up 6x5 gal pots for the first time. is 5 gal large enough for peppers indefinitely? I'd have to fertilize over time for sure but root wise? Also, would it be worth it if it meant overwintering by basically just...

Any luck at the farmers market?

When you guys mention medium or mild I'm guessing jalapeño range? I figured bell and sweeter peppers would be more popular for the everyday consumer but the one season I tried bells... I had some killer blossom end rot and lack luster pods. Shishitos would probably be amazing for local...

Any luck at the farmers market?

Anyone have any success selling their produce, plants, or dried flakes/powders at local farmers/flea markets? I'm considering testing the waters.   I know it varies from city to city I'm sure but just curious to hear your stories.

    NPK test?

Haha yea no joke. My beds are all filled with foreign soil. Not sure I'd go to a lab. I might just try a soil test from lowes or test applying it to a few controlled plants.

    NPK test?

I know NPK tests exist but has anyone ever used one to any accuracy?   I got ducks this season and keep reading about how great the pond water is for ferts. They poop in it quite a bit and it doesn't require composting like chicken manure. It can be applied directly to the plants.   I'm just...

water How to make tiny self-watering wick systems

Is something like this worth it if you are just growing plants for transplant to an outside raised bed?   I need a simple method for growing 30+ plants for transplant and currently am using a modified double cup with red solos.... once they get topping size they go through water like crazy...

    GROW ROOM UPDATE

What kind of lights are the two main ones?    Looks good though... I only use my lights for starting transplants but I might have my lights closer than needed.

    Nitrogen fertsssss

Regarding the ferts. I have my beds mulched with wood chips etc. No till farming   will granules work well enough if applied to the surface/over the mulch or is it better to just use liquid ferts and water in?

    Nitrogen fertsssss

Single fert as in the ratio type ? or frequency of application?   I've heard of growers that only fertilize when they transplant too.
