    jswieton's 2017 Glog

My plants seem to be improving since I gave them a heavy dose of Nitrogen and some CalMag.  Here is what I pulled from 3 plants today.  The ElScorpanero is definitely my most productive plant at the moment.  It still has another 20+ pods that should ripen up sometime in the next week.

    Light Green Leaves?

I did the PH test and my levels seem ok.  They are maybe a slight bit alkaline but nothing crazy.  However, my problem seems to be getting worse instead of better.  I was looking at my plants and I came across a few peppers that look like they have some sort of blossom end rot or some other...

    Light Green Leaves?

I haven’t noticed anything yet.  I just topped dressed my plants with some nitro bat guano, so I’m sure it might take a little time to see some results with the nitrogen.  I’m hesitant to hit my plants with full strength chemical ferts because I did amend my soil with some blood and feather...

    Light Green Leaves?

I think it is very possible that my issue is from over watering.  I checked the drainage holes and I might have made them too small; soI drilled out the existing holes with much larger ones.  When I removed the drill bit the soil in the bottom of the containers was like soup.  Hopefully this...

    Light Green Leaves?

Despite appearing relatively healthy, a few of my plants have very light green leaves compared to the rest of my plants.  Is this generally do to a nitrogen or nutrient deficiency?  I have been using ¼-1/2 strength fert since I potted them up.  Should I increase the steaghth of my fert when I...

    jswieton's 2017 Glog

I have really been slacking with my glog updates.  It has been a couple of months since my last update.  All of my plants are doing pretty well and I have pods on all of them and the pods are beginning to ripen.  Here is the list of everything that I have in containers. Brainstrain (red) (seeds...

media Tell me about coco coir

ok, the blend I'm useing is 1 part P. moss, 1 part mushroom compost, 0.5 part perlite, 0.5 part coco, 0.5 part worm casting, and then I several amendments like fish bone/feather/kelp/allfelfa meal, azomite, epsom salt, leonardite/humic acid, and mycos.  I wanted to use more coco coir instead of...

media Tell me about coco coir

Whats wrong with using mushroom compost?  I picked up several bags at the end of last season that were on sale.  I'm in the process of enoculating my soil for my 5 gallon container grow and I'm using 1/3 part mushroom compost in my mix.  Was this a mistake using it in my mix?

indoor I'm running out of indoor grow space under my T5

What do you do when you run out of growing space under your T5 lights?  I have another month until I can transplant my plants outdoors and at this late in the growing stage I really don’t want to invest in a new light.  I don’t have any issues with pests or disease.  Do I run any risk in harming...

    jswieton's 2017 Glog

My plants have really started to take off.  I am running out of space fast and I'm not really sure what to do because I have at least another 4 weeks until I can transplant them outside.

I’ve also topped the majority of my plants and my plants seem to love it.  Within a few days of topping them I have tons of side shoots coming off each of the stems.  I was reluctant to do it but the growth really took off as soon as I did it.

    jswieton's 2017 Glog

It’s been a few weeks since my last update and things seem to be going very well.  Due to lack of growing space, I have thinned out my plants from 45 down to about 30 and I’ve replanted everything in 24oz cups in a mix of peat, coco coir, and worm castings.

New growth turning yellow and curling

My plants seemed to be doing well when all of a sudden all of my new growth was becoming yellow and shriveled.  The older leaves are now becoming very puffy looking and developing a yellow tinge around the outside edges of the leaves.  Have my plants developing some sort of deficiency or is this...

    jswieton's 2017 Glog

I’m really shocked at how well my plants have been doing over the past couple of weeks.  My plants have seen huge growth over the past 7 days and I feel like I am finally over all of the problems I initially had with my seedlings.  After looking back on everything I think my problems came from...

seeds Will plants that overcome difficulties as seedlings put out less fruit?

I have a feeling a figured out what my problem was.  I added worm castings to my seed starting mix to all of these plants except one.  The plant that is doing well I started two weeks later, and  I did not add the worm castings to.  The castings must have over fertilized my other plants from the...

    jswieton's 2017 Glog

I repotted everything into red solo cups and everything seems to be doing much better.  I have a feeling that my addition of worm castings to my seed starting mix might have been my problem because I have one plant that I started 2 weeks later that I didn’t add the worm castings to and it is by...

seeds Will plants that overcome difficulties as seedlings put out less fruit?

Will plants that overcome difficulties as seedlings (ext. over water/over fertilize in the early stages of growth) produce less fruit or be prone to more problems as mature plants?  I had some difficulties right out of the gate but they seem to have corrected themselves and are now on the right...

How do I lower my PH in my solo cups?

I tested my nutrient solution and it is 6.5 but when I test my water by itself it is 8.0.  I have limited the amount of nutrients that I have given my plants up until this point.  Perhaps once I start feeding them full strength doses it might correct my problem.
