    Carolina Reaper Pods

I pulled a couple of enlongated reapers yesterday, too, and thought it was a little odd they grew to that shape with no pronounced tail.  Didn't figure it was a big deal, and since they were going to a customer, I threw in a couple of extras just to make sure they got enough of the reaper shapes.

harvesting Poll: Harvesting - Pick or Snip Pods

I do both, actually.  I prefer to snip, but the other leaves and stems can get in the way, and it's harder to directly guide scissors/snips/knives to the stem.   I really do enjoy picking, though.  Bend back 'til it snaps off.  There's something a little satisfying each time.

Reaper size comparisons.  I don't know what's going on with that one way over on the left.

A little update on a big freakin' subject: My garden is going into overdrive.  We've gotten some nice beneficial rain showers over the past few weeks and no hail.  Watermelons won't stop growing and have well exceeded the spaces they were supposed to be in.  I pulled 41 cucumbers from my four...

And here is a blurry photo of a ghost pepper.  These are a red variety, which is odd because I'm used to growing the orange varieties.  The red types stick out like a sore thumb among the green leaves....kinda like Christmas in June.  You can see this one is as long as my hand is wide.

This is a blurry picture of a ripe habanero.  I am very pleased with their size.

Here are some blurry pictures of some peppers.  I might be encouraged to take more clear pictures eventually, but that day is not today.

NinjaR's Super Awesome Pepper Explosion Show Log

Hi there, folks.  Been a while since I've posted.  I took some photos of the plot this afternoon, as well as some blurry photos.  Everything seems to be producing nicely.  I have a few ripe habaneros I'd like to pull, as well as a couple of ripe ghost peppers.  The last ones to produce were the...

Not much to update.  Peppers have been in the ground for about a week now.  Had some pretty bad storms blow through here over the past couple of days -- they all held up just fine.  That really surprised me...the winds were estimated to be around 60 mph.  I thought I'd surely walk out there and...

Any luck at the farmers market?

I'm planning on doing a few test runs at a local market.  No idea how it'll turn out but I made several passes by there last year and no one was selling them.  I don't know if that's because there's not a market for them or simply because no one grows them.  I'm really hoping one of the boutique...

Been a bit since I've posted.  Got laid off from my job a couple of weeks ago which put somewhat of a damper on my garden plans.  I still have all the peppers, though, and I started putting them in the ground yesterday. Planning on seeding in watermelons and sunflowers soon, although the coming...

Checked on some TAM jalapeno seeds I planted nine days ago....I planted some tomatoes along with them and they're coming up OK, so I figured the jalapenos would be coming up, too.  Dug up some of the seeds....not a single one had germinated.  I might just have to buy seedlings when it comes time...

I'm sure I'll post some pictures eventually -- I've taken a few, but they never really look like much of anything other than a bunch of juvenile plants, really.   I don't plan on doing much more ground work in the garden for now.  I might go along and till up where I laid down the cow manure...

seeds Transplanting instead of clipping extra seedlings

Same as pretty much every other reply here.  I don't get all the dirt out of the root ball, though.  Pretty easy stuff if you're gentle and don't just go ripping roots like crazy.  Same with tomatoes.

Not too much goin' down in Pepper Town.  Finished laying out compost in my beds this afternoon.  I lost my source of good, well-composted horse manure which kind of ticked me off because the supplier was begging me to take it out....I showed up Friday and all they had was a truckload of newish...

    Sprout Help

My habs were a little slow to germinate than the reapers and bhuts I planted -- eight days for the hab seeds vs. five days for the others.  Bed temps for all was 85 degrees. Habs are slower to grow than the others, too...they are healthy, but short and stout.  Lighting for the habs is much...

I'm actually really looking forward to seeing what happens in the area *not* to the right.  I've planted things there over the years, but nothing really planned.  Everything I plant is usually on that top section to the right, but I've put in vining plants to the left.  Things seem to grow well...

seeds Will plants that overcome difficulties as seedlings put out less fruit?

I suppose it depends on what you mean.  They are probably just as capable of producing as well as any other plant (depends on what happened and if they are truly recovered) -- however, if you keep them as annuals, they're going to be set back a little, maybe a couple of weeks or so.  That means...

Stage 2 of Operation Compost Cover is complete.  That garden cart made such a difference!  It's smaller than my Vermont cart so I can't haul as much...but pulling it behind my riding mower took damn near all of the work out of the chore.  Shovel in, haul, shovel out. Transplanting my habs to...
