    heat loving sweet pepper

Looking to grow a new sweet pepper this year (sub 1,000 scoville).  The hot peppers flourish but man, california wonders grow for crap in the Alabama summer.  Any suggestions?  We're typically in the 75-95 degree range all summer, pretty high humidity.

    selling superhots

anyone ever sell their superhots?  I live in a medium sized city and it's nearly impossible to find any fresh around here for some reason.  I have someone offering me $1 a reaper, might sell him some of my extras.

fermenting how to tell if your sauce is fermenting properly

Trying to ferment some pepper sauce for the first time, how are you supposed to tell if it's fermenting?  "Look for air bubbles" well I can see some, but I'm not sure if it's because it's fermenting or because some air is mixed in.  This is 1.5 lbs of jalapenos and 3 reapers, it also has garlic...

Methods of cooking peppers, increasing or decreasing heat

When I eat peppers from the garden, it's usually one of two ways.  Raw or grilled.  Raw is always a lot hotter than grilled, but IMO grilled gives it a little more flavor.  Yesterday I decided to try to roast some ripe Jalapenos in the oven, in bacon grease.  First of all, they were absolutely...

fertilizer to the sustainable growers....who fertilizes with their urine?

I was looking at my fertilizer the other day and noticed that the primary substance in it was urea, the same compound found in urine.  Did a little digging and apparently urine has been shown to be an excellent source of fertilizer, as long as it's diluted and applied directly to the soil.  So...

what are you doing with excess peppers

I have 23 plants this year and it looks like I'm going to have way more than I need.  Just curious what everyone does with their extra peppers every year.  Canning whole?  Sauces?  Freezing? Give away?  Selling?  I've never seen anyone around where I live selling fresh super hots, I wonder if it...

seeds After 3 years of trying, I'm confident I finally bought real reaper seeds

I saw the other thread here about HD reapers being another pepper, I feel the pain (frustration, not heat lol).  This is the third season I've tried growing reapers, the past two "reaper" seeds were everything from some kind of Thai Chili to some kind of Hab.  I've been waiting with baited...

looking for a real hot ghost sauce recipe

I'm currently drowning in ripe Bhuts, I have around 40 or so and I need to do something with them.  I want to make a really hot ghost sauce, anyone want to comment with your favorite recipe?  I did a pineapple ghost sauce last time and it was good, but not very hot, I would love a hot sauce that...

indoor Comparing indoor plants to outdoor ones

This year I grew indoor plants for the first time.  I had originally bought 4 T5s just for seedlings but I had a few leftover plants so I thought, why not keep them inside and see how they do.  The indoor plants have gotten too big so I moved them outside last week, the pics were taken...

container back to basics, BER on indoor container plants

I'm getting a little frustrated with this whole indoor growing thing.  On my outdoor plants I only water them when the plants start wilting a little, I water them deep, I've been doing the same to my container peppers inside.  That's been fine but now suddenly all the peppers on my bell pepper...

    greenhouse nonelectric greenhouse feasibility

I have a 4x4 raised bed with a metal frame around it that I'm using to grow watermelons vertically.  I'm thinking I may turn it into a cheap little greenhouse once I get done harvesting the melons, but I've never grown anything in a greenhouse before.  Can you raise peppers in a greenhouse...

    indoor leaning indoor bell pepper

I always put up some support netting on my outdoor peppers, but I figured I didn't need to support my indoor ones (no wind).  Well I have a bell pepper plant with a serious gangsta lean.  Should I figure out a way to get this guy standing tall again or just let it do it's thing?  This plant is...

    definitely not a reaper

I grew a couple reapers this year and.... they're definitely not reapers.  Looks more like some kind of Thai chili pepper to me, anyone have any ideas?   Side note, don't buy seeds from Amazon, even with good reviews.

indoor indoor peppers, new growth dying

This is my first time growing peppers indoors and my Bhut is having some issues.  Some of the new growth is dying, many of the new leaves have dried tips, there's also some brown spots on the leaves but I haven't been to concerned about those.  I've never seen this before on my outdoor plants so...

Topping this plant has completely stunted its growth

I potted up 4 pepper plants back on May 8th to try growing inside this year.  I decided to top two of them (first time topping), a Serrano and a Reaper.  The Serrano took to the topping beautifully, the Reaper not so much.  The pictures below show a Bhut and the Reaper side by side , the first...

    indoor staking indoor peppers?

I just transplanted 9 out of my indoor starts in the garden, but this year for the first time I've kept 4 indoors.  Do the indoor ones need any kind of support?  I run a fan on them an hour every day, but that's about it.   Also, I've been keeping my lights within a few inches of my peppers. ...

    indoor indoor peppers are drooping

I usually start my seedlings outdoors directly but I wanted to get a nice jump this year, so I bought some grow lights and started my peppers the first of March.  I have 12 pepper plants and they seem to be doing really well except for a couple issues.  Some of the plants have some leaves that...

will this light system work for fruiting peppers?

I'm looking to grow 6 pepper plants indoor this year.  I currently have two of this light fixture  https://www.amazon.com/iPower-GLT5XX4B2-VALUE-FOUND-White/dp/B01E9IO770/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8   for 4 total 4' T5 6500k 54w bulbs.  If I attach four additional CFL 2700k lights with...

    Growing peppers on two T5s

I have a light fixture with two 4' T5s that I use to start my vegetables indoors.  Once we hit our last frost date, I put the plants in the garden outdoors.  After this point I store the light away until the fall when I want to start a fall crop.   I'm interested in growing a couple pepper...

    harvesting harvesting early first pods?

I have a couple plants that have only set a couple pods, they are almost full size now.  I've heard that harvesting the first pods early will help create more down the road.  I've never tried this because I always get plenty of pods, but this year has been rough with constant rain and lackluster...
