    favorite Favorite fresh-eating pepper?

I don't usually eat my pods straight but I do eat them fresh chopped on my food quite often. My favourite this year has to be my own Lemon Drop x Burning Bush, the flavour is like a lemon drop with habanero tones and the burn is intense yet quick to fade. It gives my mouth a chance to reset...

What peppers can you get locally?

Orange Habs, Serrano, Thai, Rainbow Cayenne, Ghost, Bells, Banana, Anaheim, Poblano, Jalapeno and sometimes Scotch Bonnets   Honestly it's not a great selection which is the main reason I started growing my own peppers.I wanted more flavours and varieties.

    Lemon drop fruit

Eh?   They still ripen just fine, they end up yellow with the purple/black staining, rather than green with the same stains. Taste is not effected at all. You don't understand how freckles/tanning work to protect skin. When your skin is exposed to UV radiation the cells develop pigments that...

    Lemon drop fruit

Those will turn yellow but retain the sunburn colour. It doesn't effect the taste and is only pigment to protect the pepper from further damage, similar to freckles on your skin.

Hottest, most oily, gnarly RED Superhot

The 7 pot Bubble gum Large is by far the oilest of the reds I'm growing this year. My nose and eyes were tingling just from cutting a few open to harvest the seeds.

chinense Aji Lemondrop x Burning Bush Habanero (Baccatum x Chinense)

The first true size pod is ripening today on plant 1 and plant 3 has several starting to turn. I'll have some seeds hopefully by the weekend. I'll be starting them indoors so that I can get F2 fruit over the winter.   If I have enough seeds I'll be sending them out after I harvest.

    First Painful Mistake.....

I had burning knuckles after sticking my hands into bags of dried super hot pods, the oils and dust transferred from the pods to the bag then rubbed on to my hands. It wasn't for several hours after that my hands started burning. It was INTENSE, no amount of soap was getting it off or stopping...

chinense Aji Lemondrop x Burning Bush Habanero (Baccatum x Chinense)

I'll be starting a few of them immediately after I harvest. So we'll have to see.    There's definite seeds starting and they aren't failed black specks inside the pod so I'm hopeful that they're viable. The true pod shape and size is very different from the stressed form in the first round of...

chinense Aji Lemondrop x Burning Bush Habanero (Baccatum x Chinense)

Good news! I have seeds forming in the second round of pods on Plant 1 and Plant 2. I still might be able to send out F2 pods this fall when they ripen.

What are you adding to next years grow?

I'm looking to grow SRR and SRP next year along with getting rid of some varieties I don't care for as much. So far My west coast seeds scotch bonnets have been a poor performer outdoors I have other Caribbean varieties that are loaded and doing great while these plants aren't doing much at all...

favorite Favorite NEW TO YOU variety you grew this year

It's a bit early for me to tell what variety is going to be my favourite, a lot of my plants are still ripening their first round of true pods. So far Fatalii and Bahamian Goats have been great. I'll definitely be growing them again next year for sauce making.

    container Container growing secrets?

I use Promix potting soil for my indoor plants with GH Flora Nova @ 2ml/3.7L. It's Peat based and is a little less fluffy than the Miracle grow potting mix. Root growth seems unimpeded and moisture retention/wicking is outstanding. Just remember to back off on nutrients as soon as the plant is...

    container Container growing secrets?

I had a similar problem this year. I got compost and sand mix and put it in my containers, not knowing that it needed to be amended. The stuff compacted down pretty hard and wouldn't drain properly at all! I found out that through a combination of water tension and fine silt that a huge layer of...

    Next Season

If you keep eating hot peppers I find that tolerance to heat builds quite quickly which allows you to sample Habanero level peppers quite easily.  I remember when I first started dealing with Habaneros and thought they were very hot but now that I've been eating them consistently for year...

    Pepper flavor

I would also like to trim down the amount of types of pepper after I find the flavours I love most. This year is my second year of serious growing and I went into it planning to expand my flavour horizons. Many of the varieties I have growing this year never matured before frost came last year...

    Pepper flavor

I find that tasting notes from the hippy seed company videos are quite accurate to what I taste with my peppers.    Ghosts are very floral, like someone took flowery perfume and sprayed my mouth. I personally can't stand it as it doesn't taste anything like other peppers, my mind doesn't...
