    NH Jalapeños 2019 (Runty Lives)

Well, the season is starting it's wrap up. We're not done yet, but the slowdown has begun. We usually get a warm week or two in Sept and then it's all downhill.   The banana peppers have been harvested and canned and some seeds have been saved. The Hungarians will be next as they are lovely...

PaulG 2019 - Three Gallon Grow

I wish I had a proper experiment going, but all I have to go by is observation. I've stuck with smaller pots because our season is so short I figure there's really no point in anything bigger than a 3 gal. Plus I can conserve container mix which I reuse year to year. We seem to have success...

PaulG 2019 - Three Gallon Grow

I was getting ready to pack my 2 gallon pots away never to be used again, but I swear there's not a whole lot of difference between my 2gal, 2.5gal, and 3 gallon plants. In fact the Hungarians seem to prefer the smaller pot.

Added a second of the Aero5 to the front. This is the strongest of them and is currently dripping with new pods, blooms, and buds. Figured a good experiment needed more than one plant.       Meanwhile, the bananas are starting to ripen.       The elusive Bellapeño is also starting to ripen. A...

    NH Jalapeños 2019 (Runty Lives)

As an experiment I moved one of the Aerogarden 5 out front into full sun with the bananas. No worries about cross pollination as the bananas are at capacity and no longer blooming. But that doesn't matter anyway. I just want to see how much difference full sun makes compared to part sun on the deck.

I've heard of them but never considered them until now. Wow! That thread may have sold me on giving them a shot at some point. However, I do have a few Jalapeno seeds left from my packet of mystery peppers from last year, and if I remember correctly they were hotter than Runty as well. I'm...

    NH Jalapeños 2019 (Runty Lives)

It has been nice since the weather perked up and even with the cold spring we're still in better shape than last year. The heat waves in July were a little hard to keep on top of, but no harm was done. We're back to normal NH summer weather now, highs in the upper 70s lows in the upper 50s...

The Hungarians       One of the Bananas. Had trouble getting the camera to focus on the others.       ...and look what came in the mail this week! Not sure how this is gonna go, so I bought 2 packets to cover my butt. Will probably try one in the AG over the fall/ winter and see how that...

Ok, well past time for an update. First up, the late 2018 starts. They're doing great.       The lanky Feb starts also doing great.       The Aerogarden 5 plus Runty group shot. No close ups of these as we've been picking from them for fresh eats. The new growth has been very good.      ...

    NH Jalapeños 2019 (Runty Lives)

One of the mini sweets was ripe enough to taste today. The flavor wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. The biggest issue was the tough skin which I didn't like. The skin was Hungarian tough, which I expect from a Hungarian, but not from a sweet.   I've been wondering about my Cayenne too. I...

Pulled a bunch of stunted jalapeno pods off the Aerogarden 5 both to get them off the plants and to put something fresh on our pizza. I got 18 slices from these 9 pods. They were delicious with varied heat.     In other news, all plants are setting pods like champs. The mini sweet has one...

    NH Jalapeños 2019 (Runty Lives)

Everything appears to have survived the heat wave. Several baby pods are looking like they're done for but the plants and established pods are good. Gave them a preemptive watering Sat morning. Didn't on Sunday and had to go out and give the bananas a drink mid day. They get the most sun, so no...

Aerogarden Decision To Make ....Help please

Sounds like you got the perfect week for your rescue. Just to keep you optimistic, my two rescues last year are here: http://thehotpepper.com/topic/68959-nh-jalapenos-2018/#entry1574120   The pics were taken a little over week after I put them into containers. Both had pods on them while still...

3 days clouds: 1 day sun sounds like this year's Spring over here! Glad the weather's clearing up for you. I hope it continues.     A couple quick shots this morning.   The October start.       The best of the Feb starts.       Runty himself.       Cayenne pods are looking a little short, but...

    NH Jalapeños 2019 (Runty Lives)

Speaking of watering by hand I had to do an emergency watering yesterday on the bananas. All of them looked like they were going through mid-day wilt but something seemed different. When I went out to actually check the containers were very light. Got everything back up and perky, but learned...

Aerogarden Decision To Make ....Help please

I had to do an emergency transplant last year from an AG into containers. I followed the: Start in shade, give them plenty of water for the first week, and slowly get them used to sunlight advice, and they both survived and performed very well for me... until the freeze came of course. I dare...

Thanks! Things are moving along nicely. The only hiccup right now is our cold wet Spring has become a hot humid Summer with little actual rain. As problems go, I'll take it. I don't mind watering by hand.

Notes:   If the mini sweets taste good I may grow more of them next year. The Jalapenos started late 2018 are bushy and strong, the ones started in Feb '19 are a little lanky. Might start next year's plants a little earlier than Feb, and will likely top them long before they go into the cold...
