You know, I've never noticed purple on the flower petals, but then again, I haven't paid that close attention. Hopefully the peppers will be true to type. This year I found my first cross in Chile Rayado.

Those are pretty cool temperatures. I suspect the Rayados dropped the lower leaves, like you said, from crowding and lack of light. Hopefully they will recover well when potted individually. Thanks! I have a chiltepin once, which grew in small little mounds. It was very good, just a little laborious when it came to harvest.

I believe the difference in name is probably due to the crossover from Spanish to English. Most often, in Spanish, I've heard it called "Chile Rayado," (Streaked Pepper). "Pepper" might be left off, being understood. If asked "¿Qué chile es?" (What pepper is this?) one might respond, "Es rayado"...
