Walmart had a Ferry Morse Pepper Mix pack 2500-6000 SHU. I was fascinated by all the different fun shaped fruit on the package so decided to plant a few in 3'' pots.
For my first successful time I emasculated a closed flower on the Jimmy Nardello then touched my finder to a Pepperoncini open flower and wiped my finger on the emasculated female flower. It's been a few days with no change so I don't think the pollen fertilized correctly.
Since I've started a...
Planned crosses
Sweet Banana X Thai and/or Pepperoncini x Thai - Thai is a seedling though
Sweet Banana x Jimmy Nardello
Hot Banana x Jimmy Nardello
Sugar Rush Peach x Banana or Pepperoncini
The peppers are thriving, err well at least they are not dead. I did end up cutting back the sweet...
I tried to pollinate a banana flower but in the process of pulling off the petals with tweezer the whole flower broke off. Next time I'lll try to very carefully cut them off.
I've been battling some type of insect that is turning the leaves yellow then fall off. Other than that all is growing well. Hungarian Hot Wax sprouted today and Thai has a couple little hooks starting so in a day or two all will be sprouted.
Chilli's
Both the banana and pepperoncini are flowering and doing well. They've been transplanted from 6" to 2 gallon size pots a couple days ago. The jimmy nardello is smaller and starting to fork. Also thai pepper seeds were planted yesterday.
I got rid of the Datil pepper it just didn't like the conditions unlike all the other peppers.
Update time - some of them were getting quite root bound in the tiny 3" pots so I transplanted everything into 6"ers. Also bought some 3-5 gallon fabric pots to plant them in once they get bigger...
All the peppers are now sprouted. Yay!
Banana Pepper, Chiltepin, Sweet Datil, Pepperoncini, and Jimmy Nardello
Here is a progress update
Here is the light I bought
Most of the seeds planted have sprouted except the crushed pepper flake. There is still time though.
The seller I bought Hungarian Hot Wax from must be from tim buck too because they still haven't arrived.
Here's a picture update. The first seedling to grow a new leaf will be the one I keep...
Thanks for the warm welcome everyone
I always plant 3 or 4 seeds in each pot then cull the weakest until one is left.
Datil pepper is the first to sprout in just 6 days.
