    Chlorine and Chilis

Thanks everyone for the responses! Sounds like slightly different approaches for a lot of people, so maybe I'll have to do some experimenting. If my plants start to show signs that they are taking too well to the hose water, I'll take measures to purify. Thanks again all, and happy growing!!

    Chlorine and Chilis

Hi everyone, I live in Philly, a city that is noted for its high levels of chlorine. When inside, I give my peppers distilled or spring ater most of the time, however once they go outside I plan on using water straight from the hose. This is my first summer here, so I don't have any experience...

seeds Heat mat bad for seedlings?

Thanks EM. Yeah, I was definitely noticing that my cells have been drying up. I can water in the morning and when I come back at night they're pretty much bone dry. I'll be watering a lot more this year to keep up, but that should be relatively easy to manage.

seeds Heat mat bad for seedlings?

Eephus Man, When do you remove your heat mat? My concern is that, while I keep the heat on for the rest of my seeds to pop, the heat will be detrimental to the seedlings that have already come up. Can my seedlings handle the mid-80 F temperatures while I wait for the rest of my seedlings to...

seeds Heat mat bad for seedlings?

Thanks Matt, I currently have a thermostat set at 82 F, with the probe located at the edge of the tray, and I know that my temps towards the middle of the tray get about 5 degrees hotter. I might have to play around with temps that are OK for both the seedlings that have already sprouted as...

seeds Happy Frog and Perlite for starting seeds

I'm using a standard 72-cell try, with a temperature controlled heat mat. My mat is set to 82, with the probe in a cell on the border of the tray, so that my the cells closer to the middle are up to around 87. I still have a bunch of seeds left to germinate, I'm just having these problems with...

seeds Happy Frog and Perlite for starting seeds

neoguy, The soil was pretty much bone dry when I went to water yesterday. It sounds like this Happy Frog soil doesn't retain water very well, from what others are saying...

seeds Happy Frog and Perlite for starting seeds

No, I'm not fertilizing, and with what you're all saying if anything it's too light and airy rather than not enough. I feel as if damping off would occur if my soil wasn't letting enough air in/water out, and so I'm kind of stumped. Maybe the organic nutrients included in the soil are too much...

seeds Happy Frog and Perlite for starting seeds

Hi SS, You're saying that the mix I'm using might not retain enough water? I was under the impression that seedlings like an easily draining mix.

seeds Heat mat bad for seedlings?

Hi all, I have a few seedlings that have popped up, however the majority are still in the process of germinating and have not broken the soil yet. Will the seedlings that have sprung up be hurt by my leaving the heat mat under my tray in order to help the rest of my seeds continue to germinate...

seeds Happy Frog and Perlite for starting seeds

Hi everyone, So I've had my first couple of seedlings pop up in my 3/4 Happy Frog 1/4 perlite mixture. However, I'm seeing some of the seedlings sort of wilt over about a day after they pop up. I have sufficient light, heat etc., and so I was thinking that it might be a problem with my soil...
