Caution to Anyone Switching to "Cheap" Blue/Red only LEDs

Pex, emailed back and forth with Dan on the Folux site and was pleased with his help. I think I will try the same setup like you are using and see how I like them. It's like anything else. You have to have something in your hands to try and understand how it works in your own usage.

Caution to Anyone Switching to "Cheap" Blue/Red only LEDs

Gotcha. I was figuring 3500K or the 4000K since all I use them for is starting my seedlings until they go in the garden.

Caution to Anyone Switching to "Cheap" Blue/Red only LEDs

PEX which color temp Helios are you using in your set up? I see they have 3 choices available. How do you change the wattage? At a given voltage doesn't the panel draw what it's going to draw? These look interesting. I think they would be good for my seedling starting table.

You should use a red solo cup. You might not catch you pest but it would be interesting to see what concert t-shirts the bugs gathered around the beer were wearing. Of course a strong magnifying glass would be required......................

Well we dodges the hail and got a good soaking also. I got all my plants in on the Saturday before the rain started the next day or so. It's been non stop this or that here. I did get Photobucket working so I might have to get some pictures taken. I haven't had time to tally up all of my...

Well what a blur March to April was. My plants are growing on autopilot now. The supers are big and stocky. The sweets are getting there. I had some seeds which would not germinate or did so in low numbers. But everyone is looking good!! being too busy for my own good is evident by me typing...

    in-ground Inground Spacing

No drip. Use drip tape. A lot less work setting up and it works good for me. If you change your spacing at another time then you may have to change your emitter set up. Not so with drip tape. No more plugged or finicky emitters for me. Just my fifty cents. I tend to cram my plants in also...

Sorry for the lack of ability to paste quotes attributed to each poster. I'm inept at this. No. Mine don't go out till April 15th at the earliest. No tempting for me. I've been bit by snow in May before. So I wait till at least tax day. My sweets are popping up. I planted WAY too many sweets...

seeds Best way to start seeds?

I use #2. I use 2 TBL peroxide to 1 qt of water and soak approx 24 hours. Then planted in soil in 606 inserts. Thee insert with soil are on heat mats set at 80 deg. No cover or dome. This is just what works well for me and gives consistent results. I deal with a couple hundred seeds so less...

So I received my report back from K-State on y soil sample. My ph  is high @ 7.7, my nitrogen is low 10 ppm, Phosphorus is high 144 ppm, and my Potassium is high 455 ppm. I never amend or add any fertilizer to my garden. I wonder if my hard well water can raise the P & K and push the ph up. My...

    Looking for a fan

I like having fans on my seedlings. Never underestimate the power of yard sales, Goodwill, or the DAV. I use a couple of pedestal fans on each end of my grow table. $20 at Wally World if you can't find one second hand. I have a couple of small desktop fans in the middle of the table. All of mine...

Friday night I went through and consolidated my little guys. I removed the plug of soil in the inserts that had a seedling in it and moved them to the other inserts which had more starts in them. In essence I moved my seedlings (plant and soil) around  to have all full 6-pk inserts in my trays...

I'm afraid you are probably right. I'm afraid I'll be terribly late this year as it's shaping up. Go figure. I usually like to watch the soil temp and once it consistently stays 55 deg or better I feel ok setting out. I'm sure this year will be super early.

    Fluorescent light plug set

Power strips  are handy. I have a timer controlling the 2 strips my lights are plugged into. I am no expert but if the ballast will work with 28w bulbs you'd think 24w bulbs should be ok.

    Fluorescent light plug set

I use 6500K T8's and the seedlings do great. I'm not sure if a 24w bulb can be used in this fixture. Some ballasts allow a range of wattage, some it will be damaged. It might say on the ballast itself.  You have the right idea on the cord but 3' is pretty short. Buy a cheap extension cord and...

    water Lets compare tap waters!

Back when I used to measure my water (when I raised fish) I would get 1,400-1,700 ppm with a ph of around 8. In the fish world they call it "liquid rock". African cichlids loved it. They grew good. But to raise anything else? Bringing it down with RO and then amending it to render it stable was...

Not much change in view. They have some redbuds which don't block much sun but provide some privacy.     Use it in spring before the stalks get over 12" or so. So get it on now. Bloodmeal is 16-0-0 or so which is what the garlic wants now. Grow big stalks and get big bulbs. I was pissed with...

Damn. It's not spring yet but I'm already tired. In the last couple of weeks the unseasonably warm weather has given us the opportunity to do some work out in the garden. A week ago we hauled a small trailer load of aged cow manure and tilled it into our front bed we've been trying to bring...

seeds What's Wrong with My Seedling... slowly dying.

I've used chamomile tea to help with damping off also. I agree with Tarzan. The tabasco look a bit long and could use stronger light. Airflow. A small fan does wonders.
