Thanksgiving dinners

Also I wasn't specific enough on instructions for sowing pepper seeds, and the first round of chinense got seeded too deep (some, i found, were an inch down!).   Lots of problems from that.    We re-started pretty much all of the trays last week, at correct depth... 

Not sure this counts as "growing other" lol           Should hatch 90 a week, if everything works out. We have a couple of buff orpington roosters mating the hens (leghorns, buffs, rhode island reds, black concords).  Will be fun to see what "outcrosses" we get.  

Took some lids off today and turned the lights up over those trays. Still have a few trays of no sprouts, valerian, lavender, and the fatalli yellow seeds haven't sprouted yet. The fatalli yellow seeds concern me, a little, didn't have many of them (most of our seed harvest were fatalli reds)...

Also converted part of our house's garage to sprouting.  

For about 15 minutes, at sunset, we had a pink snowfall a couple nights ago.     Past them evergreens is the 4.5 acre certified organic field on the new homestead.   The lane coming up to the house isn't even visible, even though I'd driven over it an hour before this pic. We didn't get a ton...

More chinense sprouts. I think we only have 4 trays left out of .. 36? I think? that haven't sprouted anything yet.  

Also, a basket of random forgotten onions decided to just up and sprout for no reason.  

Got a lot more sprouted since I took this, but didn't take pics today, so you get several day old pic.. :)     We have sprouts in about 20 trays now.    Will have updated germ % on everything in a week or so. (maybe a little longer on brown moruga, kinda goofed and forgot to put any water in...

Seeded Chinense 2020 list;  

Our seed starting mix this year is a bit different. I knocked out perlite and worm castings from the mix. Last year worm castings caused me some headaches when starting seed, and perlite was proven to deflect tap roots in some cases and cause issues.  So the seed starting mix was;   180 gallons...

Got both packages, thank you guys. The seeding for annuums are still a few weeks off but feels good to know we'll have more than a half tray. Last year I planted out 450 of them and we sold all of the peppers we grew, this year will kind of suck with only a hundred or so going out, but better...

We're also battling a thrip / aphid infestation in both grow rooms now. Ladybugs, lacewings, spinosad, diatomaceous earth, throwing everything at it. Have fungus gnats under control with bt israelensis strain, aphids were under control, now thrips are becoming a problem. Just seems to be...

  Much appreciated.    Today we're decontaminating the indoor garage where we did seed counts. The very air out there burns the lungs now when you walk through, and anytime pepper dust that settles on the floor is stirred up, the eyes, nose, and throat burn...    Next year we do all seed sorting...
