Stem and no cotyledons leaves (tragic helmet-head accident).

Thought it would have died right away, but it has been standing strong for several days now.

What do you think the over/under is on this plant's survival?

Yeah I'm doubtful that it will progress. The cotyledons provide the food that the plant needs to start forming leaves. After leaves form, photosynthesis takes over and the cotyledons aren't needed anymore. But without cotyledons, I don't think it will get any leaves to form.

I disagree with the naysayers!

The thing was falling over from helmet-head, and has since stood up tall and proud for several days now.

I think it is going to pull some magic trick and make it through.

Either way, it's a nice little experiment.

It reminds me when you have multiple seedlings emerge from one planter and you cull down to one plant - the headless stems just seem to persist forever...

By all means, try to keep it alive. I would love to see it bounce back and start producing leaves for you. Definitely keep us updated on its progress.

Dude! How can a stem just stand up and be without leaves unless it has some greater motivation?

It's really odd.. why doesn't it just fall over and die?

This might be the world's hottest pepper plant we are all talking about next season.

Ok I have a stem that occasionally stands up on it's own and nothing comes from it....

No leaves or anything...thank god.

Seriously though I had a Nard do that after a tragic drought situation in my grow box...durrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr......just pulled it today 3 weeks after hope began.

I have seen this many times, I tend to cause it when trying to remove stubborn helmets. I have never seen one recover from it, although I have let them sit to see what would happen.

Viagra Bill

Your plant is toast buddy, how do i know? because ive got a stack of them just the same & they have been sat there for months like it.

Like you i thought it may start to sprout leaves, them stem is healthy etc etc, but its not going to happen now.

Mezo.

Last season i had 3 seedlings come up in the 1 small pot , so when they got to about there 3rd set of leaves i picked the best 1 and so i didnt destroy any roots i just cut the other to just above soil height .
After about 1 week the 2 that i cut started to split and they formed new first set of leaves and just kept on like they were new seedlings...

I, personally, would YANK THAT LITTLE GUY! put it out of its misery.
If you invest time in to it you will just be let down. Once it uses up the Newts that it was born with, it will fall over or just dry up slowly.

If your Girl friend's head fell of would hope for the best or do whats right and bury her? Dont mind me, Im

I don't know guys. I had a Pinata sprout do the helmet head thing, and then stood strong and green for a couple weeks. This past week the tip of the stem started to swell, and something is sprouting out the end. Now I'm not going to say they look like leaves exactly, but it is certainly putting out enough effort for me to give it more time before giving it the death penalty. Just sayin' ...
