It's never too early to get started!

Sooo... 2022 season is over and most of my 2023 plants are already there - no reason not to start a new thread already! 😃

While all my current plants are technically overwinterers, only a couple have grown through the 2022 season and are considered interesting enough to keep for next seasons grow.

Let's start with the famous Schneider farms SB plant, which will be going into it's third season in 2023. It currently doesn't look all that nice but that was also the case during the winter of 2021 so no worries here...

Next in row is my Scotch Brains plant...

And then there's the Humble Servants Homestead (HSH) SB, which was also elected to stay for next season...

I started other seedlings back in September/October. They were doing great but were hit multiple times by aphids so in the end I cut them back to the main stem and removed all leaves. They are now reluctantly starting to grow back...

Got 3 scarlet rose seedlings up now of which only one appears ok. One of the others is a helmet head but still might be ok. The 3rd one looks a bit yellow with coty's that appear damaged. Will post some pictures later.

The 3 lemon starrburst seeds are also popping right now. None of the other varieties are showing signs of life at the moment.

I put a couple of other varieties in soil: scotch brains (classic) and scotch brains 7pot pheno, both from WHP.

Being at home with covid has one advantage: I can check the propagator every 5 minutes to see if anything has changed 😁
Unfortunately not much has changed in the mean time...

I have 2 good KSLS seedlings up. The 3rd one did germinate but seems to be stuck in the soil. I'm fine with those 2 though, will only keep one anyway.

There is still only one KSSR that grows properly and looks healthy. It's already starting to grow its first true leaves. The second one (which in fact is the first one to come up) is still stuck in its helmet. The 3rd KSSR is the less healthy looking one but might still grow out to a proper plant. But since I'll only be keeping one of these too, I already know which one it will be.

There's still no sign of life from the KSPS, nor is there from the the fatalii. I do see something happening in the pot of the 7pot burgundy though!

I know I should post a couple of pictures again but I don't feel like doing so right now, but I promise to post some in the next couple of days! 😉

Sooner or later we all have to get it I guess...
It 's a bit better already but I do have to keep calm. It appears like the fever goes up again when I start to move around too much 🤔. Daughter seems to have it also now, she hasn't done a test yet but the symptoms are the same... 🙄

A promise is a promise... here's a couple of "high quality" shots of the current state:

The KSSR, which was the first variety to pop. The one in the front was the actual first one but it's still stuck in it's shell. The one on the rear left is the not-so-good-looking one. You can guess which one I'll keep. I already eliminated the other two...

The KSLS... on the rear left the 3rd seedling is stuck in the soil. I removed that one and leaving the 2 others for now. I'll decide later which one to keep...

The 7pot burgundy is still rising...

The other pots still show no sign of life so there's no point in posting pictures of them. Maybe next time 🙂

Yes I'm very curious for that one too. I planted 3 seeds, only one came up. Luckily it is a healthy seedling. I believe your and my burgundy seeds both originate from WHP so the resulting plants should be very similar...

I still have no luck with the fatalii and the KSPS though. I think I'm gonna leave it at that for now as I already am at the 10 plants limit that I want to stick to...

Nah, they'll have to wait 'till next season. I only have a small backyard. And I have this overwintered scotch bonnet that is now going into its 3rd year. Overwintered plants take up a lot of room as they grow quite a bit bigger (while not necessarily producing more or earlier). I feel that I have enough plants as it is right now. And then I still need to start a couple of annuums to please my wife who does not like chinense...
