Hello, friends! New to the forum, and wanted to give you some background on a collection that started from scratch in 2001, continuing to today at 192, with just four new bottles from a trip in my early 20s to New Orleans. I was visiting with friends before moving out of state and thinking about ways to decorate my new apartment. Obsessed with New Orleans at the time (and still today), I scoured gift shops for artwork and inspiration, and ended up purchasing some wall decor crafted from hand painted slate shingles reclaimed from New Orleans' infamous fires, a few small handmade trinkets and curios, and a few retro postcards, one of which was a stylized photo of a collection of hot sauces, probably no more than 30. That was the spark that ignited a decades long collection: I was going to recreate the image on that postcard. So, that day, I picked my four favorite bottles (from label design alone) from the collection of gift shops on and around Canal St. Since then, folks have gifted me bottles from their travels, as I have myself. I think my furthest is from Germany. The collection also inspired other artwork that I had hand painted by a locally famous N'Orleans artist who works under the name Angel, again, mostly based on bottle and label design for inspiration. I'm here less for the flavor and more for the nostalgia and uniqueness of our famed fruit and the sauces it becomes!
