Advice on our website

Just built this yesterday and we are looking maybe to sell excess fresh peppers locally at farmers markets so no seeds or anything. Just curious if you guys like the design and have any feedback.

I am filling it out over the next couple of days so no descriptions yet and not all my peppers are in there yet.

Right now it probably looks horrible in internet explorer, sorry thats the last one Ill debug so FF , Opera, Chrome, etc should be good to go

Anywho, thanks for any feedback. Just some guy that loves me some peppers!

Runnin it in FF and aesthetically it looks great. I love the FB and Twitter links. The content could use some work, as it is kind of a tough read. Keep in mind, if you are in love with what you have then disregard, this is just one person's opinion.

Is it two different companies? If so, split the pages and/or combine.

The first paragraph is the "about us" section and it needs to be strong. Instead of starting it with A, try We are a sm....started by two crazy people who gave up the Fast Food lifestyle and traded it for sustainable living, and a guy who has the same love for the World's Hottest Chili Peppers as they do for growing as much of their own food as possible.

IXII or 911 for the super hots that we could not find fresh locally. To me this doesn't make sense. What are you trying to say? The delineation between the roman numerals and 911 was not the first thing that came to my mind. I just thought it was called I-X-I-I Produce. But that makes it tough if you want to be called 911 because for all the new people to your site you will have to have 911 right behind every IXII. That gets really redundant really fast. Also, the Roman Numeral for 911 is CMXI. So this may cause further confusion down the road. Maybe 911 Produce or IX-II Produce, or something along those lines.

What is not personally used during the week, we offer to others at local farmers markets during the week. Redundant: during the week, during the week. Try, "We offer plenty of fresh produce at the many local Farmer's Markets in the San Diego Area. To find out if we will be in your area, check the blue "info" tab directly to the right of this box.

I would close with something that drives the point home like if you are looking for the freshest produce or want to give the burn a shot come check us out at the next market!

Like I said, if you are attached just disregard. This is just my opinion if I were doing the exact same thing as you are.

Parting shot, just make sure that every image you use on the sight belongs to you (i.e. you took it or have the express permission of the owner). That is the fastest way to get shunned from this site.

Good luck

Matt

Good feedback, thanks. Been more or less just focusing on the alignment, logo and code so ya, the text was just put up quickly. Font can change easily. Pics are currently just a placeholder until i can break out my camera ...so sorry if it is one of your guys, they will change soon!

Does the layout and colors and so forth do it for you?

The name was off the cheek and we were a bit drunk and ya we do pronounce it i-x-i-i , just some reason it made us laugh. I have to say out side our little circle the confusion has come up with nearly everyone....so maybe ill just give everyone the finger (Just kidding) and keep it or change it...who knows.

The company if you will isnt really much, just if we end up having more than we need in a given week we would like to sell it off...not really to make a living though more for the shit and giggles.

anywho, ill read your comments more closely tomorrow as it made sense

i like the site, cant wait to see when its done, very interested in your business since its pretty close to where i live in Oceanside!

I think the colors and the tables look great. I actually think IXII is a great name. Who cares if nobody gets it, just go with it.

I know you are looking to sell what you have left over, I just think that it would be better (marketing wise) to make it sound like you aren't just providing left overs. You may not have a harvest at every FM, but going with the line of you are producing for yourself and others may work better in the minds of your potential customers.

So many forums, never actually made it down this far lol. No problem.

As for the name, we are keeping it, but ill add dashes to make it clear. The reason why is its not nine hundred and eleven, rather everyone in the states pronounces the emergency number nine one one.

Anywho, just got back to my comput er and will start working on this again soon... its not exactly a priority yet.

Well just started on the internet exploder code, now all you ie guys can kinda see what all other browsers look like. Time for taco tues...peppers before code lol

Matt, your comments were very much appreciated and I thought your wording was so good I used it verbatim unless you would prefer I change it. Curious if the navigation is obvious though. I have the pics at the bottom as well as the top and both do different things...time will tell.

Nonetheless, thank you for the very helpful comment.

The design and layout look good, but it comes of as a hobbiest site. The main problem is there is very little substance or content about who you are or what you do. I'm always weary about sites like that being just a marketing site because you don't get to know anything unless you fill out the form requesting your info.

I would rather see a horrible looking site that has tons and tons of info and content instead of a pretty site that doesn't tell you much of anything. I think I spent a total of 20 seconds on the site before I was left confused about who you are and what you do and closed the page.

at this point it is a hobbiest site. domains are cheap and i had time, but right now i have nada to sell although my bhuts im expecting to produce more than i will need this year the others are just seedlings. its more of a goal for my friends wife to be able to sell at farmanywers markets in a year or so... anyways out of curiosity are the links noticable? there are what 4 on the top with info on each pepper and for on the bottom with other info. thanks

edit: sometimes is difficult to communicate via forum especially on a smartphone. currently we dont have an identity or direction except i love bhuts and she loves gardening so we are growing more. where we go with this who knows but setting up a site right now helps focus us and any advise you guys have in direction is appreciated. currently we have 5 acres of mostly advocatos and maybe 1 acre of free land to grow on. we are looking at moving so thats a factor but it will have land as well. anywho the point is i understand the verbage is off and im open to suggestions on that but the first step on moving forward was growing a crop we like and then building a site as i know how to but as a business direction...no clue as this thing just started with me liking super hotsand her gardening. where we go forward, time will tell and im sure you guys have this experience and i would love to hear it.
