An odd request - wasabi rhizomes?

hello all, been a while since I've visited this site.

I recently started researching wasabi, and it seems borderline impossible to find any rhizomes of it, at least not for a reasonable price.  Was wondering if anyone on here happened to have any, since I've had luck getting off-pepper type plants before (hops being one off the top of my head).

I haven't grown that much this year, but I have plenty of seeds, pepper and not-pepper related.  Tons of calla lily seeds and baby bulbs, some garlic seeds, and red onion seeds.  If you need a pepper list, I can see what i have there too.

PM me if anyone happens to have a few of these rare roots to trade/sell.  Thanks.

Thanks Naga Chomper, sent them an email for now, but hoping someone on the threads has some in their garden anyway.  Barter will always beat spending money :P

Wasabi is a really tough plant to grow. It needs a very specific environment, and it grows very slowly. Would be really cool to know if someone here was attempting to grow some, but unless they live in the pacific northwest or Japan and have the patience of Job, don't count on it.

I've seen those sites just from a google search, but I'd feel better about them if anyone had first hand experience buying from any of them.

There's no Japanese markets in NY?? I've only bought them a few times but I haven't had any trouble getting rhizomes from Japanese markets in the Japanese neighborhoods out here......

I did buy it from Uwajimaya. Also from www.thewasabistore.com  Uwajimaya is an actual grocery store, so you can sort through and pick the one you want. But the online WasabiStore.com is the actual farm. It was a very easy transaction, and a good product they sent me.

So easy to grow! Just build a waterfall with lazy river on your north facing property, get the perfect soil & PH, and keep the plants continually bathed in cool water (45-55F) for several years. ;)

I'd love to if money were no object.
