Another new guy

Hello and greetings from sunny SW Florida. This is my first post.

Although I am an American, I lived in the Philippines for 5 years prior to coming back to the US about 1 1/2 years ago.

One of my little past-times in the Philippines was to grow a few of the local variety of red hot peppers in my back yard. I had very good luck producing some very hot peppers over there.

Well, the urge to grow some hot peppers here in Florida has bitten me, so I ordered a packet of "Thai Dragon" pepper seeds from the internet. These are of the "Thai Bird Pepper" variety and are about 1 1/2" - 2" in length when fully matured ... The little hotties I grew in the Philippines were only about 1/2" in length, grew pointing upward, and were very very spicy!

Well, we shall see how these Thai Dragons grow here in SW Florida. I sure hope I have as much luck with these as I did in the Philippines.

I put some of the seeds in water with just a little hydrogen peroxide to get them germinating faster. Once they started to just sprout a little, I planted them in potting soil and covered them with about 1/4" more soil. They haven't popped up out of the soil yet, but I am sure hoping for the best.

Got some Thai basil growing in another pot too ... Bought those seeds at the local Lowes. They are about 1" high now.

Hope to make some good Thai chicken curry when these plants are ready for the pickin' ... Going to try to make some homemade hot sauce with these hot peppers too.

Ron,
