Another, What Have I got Here?

So, i got this Brown Jalapeno that doesn't look so brown. 
I was hoping someone could take a guess as to what it is,  It's has a nice heat level for me, hotter then a jalapeno and maybe not as hot as a serrano .
the pepper in the pic is the first ripe one on the plant, so it might be a runt.
I know a lot of peppers look like this but I really like to know what it is for future reference. And yes Ill be saving seeds from it but it's growing in a small garden with 6 or 7 other variety's so next years might not be true.

I was thinking a serrano, but I thought they had a round cross section.

It could potentially be a cross.  The chlorophyll retainer allele that makes red peppers brown is recessive, so it would often not show in the first generation of a hybrid.  Maybe it's Brown Jalap x ?

Thanks CD, I appreciate you response. These really aren't anywhere near the size of a jalapeno. But Being a novice at the pepper game I'll do some research into what you said.
I guess it could be almost anything, but with the oval cross section I thought it would narrow it down some.  I guess I'll have to make plans to isolate some and save the seeds for the future.

I'm too lazy to figure that out but I see it as a blessing in disguise. Whatever that plant turns out to be, you can trust that you'll get what you paid/traded for from the good people here.

I think it's arbol, a very common chile in México and Mexican cuisine.

Looking around online Every arbol seem to be smaller then mine. these are 3"-3.5" (7.6cm-9cm)  and about 3/4" (1.9cm) in width.
Is that possible? do you ever see them that large?

@ Dan.We know you want to get to get to the bottom of this but we don't know and we're guessing. Deep breath! We may never know. The question I have is the one pic you posted of the cut pod. As more ripen and are picked please report back if they're round as oval is not a common pod shape IMO.

I've always used this (Usually dropping Chile)> Chile de árbol to define this pepper. I see that term, de arbol, in above but also:

Thanks NECM, Sorry if I was being a pest, I like a good mystery but after awhile I like to find the answer, but I understand and will move on.
And I'll report back to this thread when they really start ripening  and I have a number to look at.

Just to follow up, they are all the same oval shape except for one thats more round.
