pests Aphid or Gnat?

Ive been trying to figure out my black bug problem, at first I figured just fungus gnats since these plants were transplanted from soil to DWC hydro. However they seem to be multiplying no matter how much I clean out the bucks completely between nute changes. I use soap and bleach on the buckets before replacing. So I got some mosquito dunks, put those in about 4 days ago and the population has blown up. I had seen 3-4 over about a week and a half previously. Now I have about 30 corpses on the sticky tape over the last 5 days.

Can anyone tell if this is a Gnat or an Aphid? I have a microscope on order but based on what I've seen the 2 big identifiers are the distinct thorax and the wings not longer than the body. That would identify them as a fungus gnat. However the leaves have some weird damage and I read gnats dont cause that much damage. These are my 2 big plants and are isolated in their own tent thats all sealed. I just dont want it transferring to my 8 other plants that are more out in the open in another room.

gnats

the mosquito dunks / bits take a week or so to work.

Thanks for the speedy reply! I was thinking it might take a bit to work! I put some in all my res, even the ones in the other room just to be safe!

they work by feeding the larvae bad bacteria that kills them..

So the current adults / some of the adolescents will still live.
there should be much less new babies though.
The gnat lifecycle is like a few days in each stage if i remember so yeah takes a week or 2 for them all to die.

edit: see yeah

See what date is on your dunks,if any.
Seems I had to E Mail the company the bar code # to Quick Kill...

BT can't stand Heat, light and age.

Put a few sticky traps up too, they help get rid of adults.

Hmm no date, ill have to look into the date thing!

I have a bunch of sticky traps already catching basically anything around it!

Yes clearly gnats, but I didn't know they also appear with Hydro setups.
Do you have other plants with soil as well? This is where fungus gnats usually put their eggs.

Unfortunately these were transplanted from soil as seedlings. Had I known I probably wouldnt have done it this way. Im keeping them isolated from the rest of my plants though and havent seen any other ones flying around.Just in this one tent.
