Bacterial infection? What is this?

This is strange. My tomato plant has bumps along it's stem. At the top, the new growth appears to curl in a strange way. Older leaves are curling. When I wipe my finger on the stem, there is a yellow fluid. Also, purple spots are visible on the stem. What could it be?

Don't worry about the fluid, that is a secretion of different chemical compounds that the plant releases to deter pests, and encourage water-retention. Here is a short blurb on the stuff:

As far as the bumps, don't worry about those. All of my tomato plants get them on the main stem, especially near the roots, and those bumps will turn into roots if the vine/stem touches the soil for extended periods of time, or if it is buried.

I see! The curling and leaf twist.. may be from nutrient issues.
