Badger's super-ghetto glog!- NEW and IMPROVED pics

Well I thought I'd post up a glog since everyone else seems to be doing it (that's a good reason right?). Anyways, I'm a totally new grower. We had a garden last year but that was with a group of people and all I did was help weed and engineer the irrigation system. I don't have any prior knowledge about how to grow plants - including peppers - and make them big. I'd like to see some good fruit off of my plants this year so any help you guys wanna throw my way would be greatly appreciated. That's actually one of the reasons that I wanted to start this thread is so that people can catch me when I'm doing something wrong and set me straight. I've read through some glogs on here, mostly last year, so I have some basic ideas but no coping skills when I run into a problem.

I built myself a mini greenhouse with some 1x2's, some thin wood, and some tinfoil. basic CFL lights (4x 120w equivalent) provide the lighting and seem to be doing pretty decent so far.
I first planted a few back in november, and only have one yellow bhut plant that survived my initial experiments. The rest I've planted over the past 2 months in 2 increments, although I've kept no records of what I planted when etc.. total variety is:
Caribbean Red Habanero
Yellow Bhut
Fatalli
Barrackpore
Chocolate Scorpion
Naga Morich
Joyner's chocolate unknown
Brainstrain
White Habs
Peach Bhut
Giant Jalapeno
Aji Lemon
Morouga

here's some pics: (wow these didn't turn out so hot may have to break out the real camera instead of the iPod)

My best lookin plants are my carib reds, the leaves on them are gorgeous:

This is a leaf on my yellow bhut plant. The plant is about 5 in tall, I'll have to post a pic of the whole thing. I've had some problems with a few brown spots on the leaves and now a few of the bottom leaves are turning yellow and falling off. I realize that this is a crappy crappy set of pictures, but does anyone have any ideas? I think I've kind of ruled out overwatering, cuz I have some other plants that I've overwatered a bit and this doesn't look the same.

Thanks for checkin this out! I'll try and post pics and keep everyone updated, it will be interesting to see how things go!

PS the other plants that you see in the background are just junk. Wife and kids planted them at a community event and won't let me toss them.

  • Nice start, they look very good other than the yellow leaf you mention
  • No, I have no idea what it could be from the picture other than too much water But you ruled that out you said.
  • Nice manageable list ^_^
  • Not trying to be an Azz here but why would you complain about wife & kids plants, I enjoy it when they get involved or wana grow stuff at our house
  • Wish you great success in your 2013 grow!

Yellow at the bottom is usually nitrogen deficiency. The burned tip of that same yellow leaf looks like nute burn (too much nutes), lol.

Good luck.

Awww don't get me wrong, I don't mind them in there, just wouldn't be myself if I didn't do a little good natured grumbling.

Update:

Still having problems with my largest yellow bhut and the yellowing leaves. This current leaf looks like it is about to drop off and it'll be the third one. They're all on the bottom foliage. I don't wanna worry too much but it doesn't have that many leaves to lose! I took it out today to look at the roots and repot it in some (hopefully) better soil. The original stuff it was in was just some cheapo grocery store stuff. I bought some new soil from a local nursery that they recommended, it's called Glacier Gold Professional Growers Blend - anyone ever hear of it? Here's some better pics:
