Black Plastic Mulch Advice

I tried searching this topic with no luck.
I want to use black plastic tarp for a weed barrier in a 450 sq. ft. garden. Advice?

Are you thinking row cover or Silage Tarp?

If you can use something else, I'd strongly suggest you not to go with plastic mulch! I've laid many many rolls for wind break planting and from my point of view, there 's more "cons" than "pros" to use this for annuals. It is not cheap, it needs special machinery, it limits the available rain water for small plants with little root balls, it's kinda shitty to pick up at the end of the season and if you live in a hot region it can utterly cook your plants if you have a hotter than normal spring season. My two cents...

Thanks all. The garden is about 20 x 20. I don't think I need 6-mil which is very thick. Maybe a 3 or 4-mil min. I've been using a landscape fabric which is moisture permeable but expensive.

If you have oak trees, a thick layer of leaves works as well as anything plus they amend the soil. Shredded or whole, they're great. We're blessed/cursed with acres of oak leaves and a horse so I set down foot deep layers of leaves and manure on my 1500 ft² garden. This quickly melts down into a thick layer of goodness that stops weeds and grass.
