Books

Well, I decided to buy a couple books on the subject of chilis. [By the way, I have seen peppers referred to as chilis chillis, and chiles -- Are all three acceptable/interchangeable?]

I bought

The Complete Chile Pepper Book: A Gardener's Guide to Choosing, Growing, Preserving, and Cooking

http://www.amazon.co...x_ya_os_product

and

1,001 Best Hot and Spicy Recipes

http://www.amazon.co...x_ya_os_product

Both by Dave DeWitt.

Definitely looking forward to them. One of the reviews of the complete chili book was somewhat negative saying that he left out some peppers, and didn't give enough description... but I still think it will be a good buy. There is no way that you could compile ALL of the information about chilis in one book. It would be huge! :)

I will try to post a follow-up once I get these to let you know what I think about them. I am really looking forward to the cookbook. My wife is going to hate me! :)

Those books look good, although I'm sure all the info inside can be found on this forum. Still a nice thing to have and read.

Chile, Chili, Chilli, doesn't really matter. I use Chile and Chilli interchangeably. Chili, in my opinion is a dish (Chili con carne).

Got the books in a few days ago. Both of them are really good. The Complete Chile Pepper book has some amazing color photos, and quite a bit of information on the species, origins, etc. of peppers. It also has a great section on growing, harvesting, and preserving peppers... and some excellent recipes.

The cook book has so many recipes that it is almost overwhelming. It is put together very well. Each recipe has a rating of mild, medium, hot. I have some family members that don't want every meal to melt their face... [I know... weird.] so it is kind of nice to be able to plan accordingly when they visit.

All in all, I am very happy with the purchase.

Dewitt's book are good for beginners but way too may recipes, and more current info can always be found online

I completely agree... but after spending 8+ hours a day staring at a computer screen, sometimes it is nice to just come home and pick up a book. :) Granted, I am back in front of my computer, posting on a forum. lol. :)
