Unripe cateloupe generally have what you describe as light-colored "netting" against a green background - the less ripe the darker the green. As the fruit ripens, the green is replaced by a color that more closely resembles the "netting". In other words, it may be simply that your canteloupe has finally ripened. But just in case....
