Pam, I agree with you a 100% those cords are a pain in the butt so I put in 3 boxes with four plugs in each they are not live plugs until I plug the cord above them in. I will run 1 cord behind the rack that is on a timer and plug it into the cord coming out of the wall.
AJ with the 4' lights you will have more control over raising and lowering them to accomidate the growth of the plants. With an 8 footer you may end up with some plants further away from the lights than you want. Just a thought.
