Are you using tap water?

PPM is total. And in truth, the only thing that it's good for measuring is TDS. You really want to be measuring EC. That's the only real way to guarantee that your solution is legit.

So it's not accurate or acceptable to use tds->ec type conversion/equivalency for measuring leachate and nutrient sol'n?

Yeah, it could be.  What is the conversion algorithm?  Do you know?  Is it done automatically by the device?
