glog Eckley's Garden

I saw a hummingbird moth yesterday evening! It was visiting my bicolor buddleia (pollinators love it - there's a bumblebee that sleeps on one of the flowers every night). I've always noticed them in magazines and documentaries, but had never seen one in person. Amazing creature.
Wow, you mentioned my favorite insect and my favorite flower in one sentence! I grew up on the river, and for me, the scent of Buddleia davidii is the "smell of home" that brings back memories 💚

This year, I was lucky enough to encounter the hummingbird moth just once in a friend's garden
in their garden I also managed to photograph (badly) my favorite insect: the hummingbird hawk-moth (Macroglossum stellatarum), how wonderful! @Harmonic_Heat
Look how that proboscis adapts to that long type of flowers!

So the rosemary going on the deck rail requires a long, window box-style planter. But I want them to have plenty of soil volume, and the inexpensive long planters I've used so far aren't enough. I found some larger boxes on Amazon, ordered them. They arrived yesterday shortly after the plants and they are gigantic, lol. They hold ten or eleven gallons or something. It's a good thing they go off to the side.

Bernie has completely destroyed my bugleweed planting. I'll have to replant it in the spring and put in some sort of ugly barrier to keep her out. Boo. Maybe the Chocolate Chip will be available then.

Planted a couple Allium nevskianum bulbs in a container this afternoon. Also ordered a little rack with PVC shell for overwintering and seed starting in the spring.

Got some fuchsia and Coleus cuttings to root. Put up this shim shelf and potted them today. They'll get plenty of light now that the leaves are down out front.

The dogs dug up around half of my winter cover in the 4x4 bed while we were away recently. 🤦‍♂️ Need to assemble a tent for it and reseed today.
