Enigmatic Pepper Maggots

Never had any trouble with these... until... I started growing C. pubescens. They seem to like the large fleshy peppers, nothing else has any trouble.

The insects are actually quite interesting, they are the natives around here, my peppers and eggplants are the foreigners so I'm bringing alien into their turf. They've evolved with the native Carolina horsenettle (Solanum carolinense) which is also an interesting plant itself.

I've only had a couple of pods bothered with them and I imagine (but have no real facts to back this up) that because this is their native habitat that other insect or bird species have evolved here too to consume them.

Well, considering I can't hardly do anything about them anyway, this is my one consolation.
