Fruit fly problem

Hi. All of my chillies are suddenly being infested by fruit flies. They are not on the plants but in the pots.
I tried a trap filled with wine/orange juice, dish wash liquid, but it does not seem to work. Also tried a piece of apple, just to see if it would attract them, but nothing. They prefer the pot soil.
Anyone know a way to eradicate them?

Thanks for the link. Did some more reading and found that these little bugs are in fact fungus gnats. Weird that they prefer my chiles, as I always keep the soil as dry as possible.

Hear about the new type of fruit fly that is infesting the country? This Suzuki brand fly has already taken CA and OR.
