There are actually forums for potato guns? I mean i guess there are forums for everything else, so why not. I made a few wicked potato guns back when I was a teenager. My record distance was with a 5 foot long air powered spud gun: 496yds or 1488 feet.

Oh wow, yall use really small caliber. I'm talking a 5 foot long 2" diameter barrel with a 5 foot long, 4" diameter air chamber underneath. Filled the chamber to 200psi and had a solenoid valve so it would just pop open and dump the air at once. Tried those ball valves with the handle, and got shit for range in comparison. They allow the gas to begin leaking before it fully shoots so you get diminished distance. The solenoid valve is more like an explosion of air, since it opens fully much more quickly.
I used a large potato for the ammo, I had sharpened the barrel so it would slice to a snug fit. It would knock you flat on your ass if you shot anything that weighed more than a pound out of it. We used to shoot all kinds of things out of it.
However, that shot was pretty much a fluke man, i believe it must have had a tailwind once it got so high up, cause the thing would usually only shoot on the order of 350-375 yards depending on size of potato

cheap plastic flashlight full of screws
a potato with 6 inch nails driven through it
shot it with the barrel completely full of water once. I thought i broke my sternum. It knocked me off my feet and the water didn't go very far at all. It also broke the pvc elbow against my shoulder from the kick lol.
Is yours combution powered? The farthest i ever shot a potato with a combustion powered one was 160 or 180 yards I can't remember, but it was well under 200. So like 480 to 500 feet.
That gun of yours is sweet. You should make a video of it shooting

Oh really a vid, hehehe, heres a few of an older guns, the hybrid is called "The Brass Bruiser" only real short vids. This is combustion plus air powered (Hybrid) uses a burst disc to hold the fuel/air mixture and a sparkplug to ignite it.

Edit: Tex, there are much more effiecent way to vent than a solonoid, have a look at the hammer piston.

No place to shoot em anymore. They built a neighborhood in the field where I used to do that at. Uhm...Hate to ruin everyone's fun concerning the Mt Dew. It's fake. I have tried it and it doesn't work. I even found the 'real' recipe and all it calls for a slight of hand. You're suppose to take a glow stick and cut it open, pour in the contents, except for the plastic center piece. Then all you need is peroxide, I guess the baking soda is just for show.

thats not like any spud gun I saw back in the day, the ones I saw were pvc & shot spuds or tennis balls. what you have & are talking about is not a spud gun IMO, instead a homemade weapon even on the verge of being called a gun. with a barrel like that you can only shoot certain things through it & it aint no spuds
I wonder if you have the barrel rifled ?
