Goat Peppers

Our two young goats slipped under a four board fence where the wire between the boards were damaged.  Wife freaked out and ran to get them out of the reaper garden.  Not one plant was damaged and they seemed to be eating weeds between the plants.  This got me to thinking about goat peppers.  Do you think they got their name because goats like them or maybe the way some of the banes got their name, because they are harmful to something: Wolf's Bane, Hen Bane, and so on?

Have tried to google it, but nothing firm.

My mother-in-law is from Miami but spent most of her childhood in the Bahamas.  When I asked her about these she said they were called that because they "weren't fit to feed to the goats".  Don't know if it is true or not.
