pubescens Growing Capsicum Pubescens in southeast missouri

Last year I tried to grow pineapple rocoto they took a long time to germinate but once got going they did well.
The problem started once put outside an long story sort had to he culled.
I still would like to grow some if possible I've heard so many good things about them
What would be the best time to start them & should seeds need to be soaked etc
I am interested in these varities http://pepperlover.com/pepper-seeds/pepper-species/capsicum-pubescens/r%C3%ADo-huallaga-rocoto-detail

Or should I just forget

Many experienced pepper growers have limited success growing C. pubescence. The one year I did have success I remember spring was wet and cold into the first week of July and the plant already had a great fruit set, the pic below is late Sept. 2004... I killed two Rocoto's AGAIN this year....

I have 4 healthy looking rocoto plants this year but only 1 of them is producing pods right now. I will most likely overwinter the 2 in containers and see if the 2 in the ground can survive our winter outdoors.

I grow them in NE KS. I don't soak my seeds, but start them way early - like Thanksgiving weekend. My best luck with them is keeping them in a partially shaded area. Like NECM said, if you don't get a cool, wet spring with an early pod set, you won't see any pods until it cools down in late August or September. Don't expect high yields in our heat and humidity.

I grew both this year.
They have good taste and heat .
Both varieties grow very large, you need big space for them.
Start the seeds now to get pods early in spring.
I recommend you Aji Oro .
