Growing Light Distance

How many inches do you place your fluorescent light(s) over your sprouts? I've got some broccoli and okra that's sprouted within 3 days of planting and I'm waiting on the peppers to emerge. I've got my fluorescent light about 2ft. above my plants. Is that too far away?

Fluorescent lights are cool so place them as close as possible since light degrades quickly with distance.

Your okra aint going to like being transplanted one little bit. The plants will not grow to their correct height. That is my experiance anyway. Okra needs a lot of heat and direct sunshine. Okra gooooooooooooooood. I will be growing ¼ acre of that this season. The okra sold real good last year. I am also growing red okra this year for my gumbo.

Ok, I got off topic. Sorry guys.

Just be careful and not let the lights get too close. They can burn the leaves if the leaves rest on the bulbs. I shoot for 2 inches as well.

Sorry to continue the off topic okra thing, but I gotta agree with ya, Im a long time okra grower ( mmmm hot pepper pickled okra, :) ) and the best thing is to put those seeds straight in the ground, they dont like to be transplanted at all
