Hello, and Thanks from Central PA

Hello THP Forum,

I've been lurking here most of the growing season and decided its about time I should make a full account. This year I've grown several Jalapeno, Cayenne and Habanero peppers, I'll post pics at a later time. I've now prepared an indoor grow area for 6 plants for the winter and I'm looking to grow something a bit more interesting.

I'm currently a PhD student at PennState, I study Population Genetics in the ocean. Most of my education is in genetics. I'm looking forward to applying this to a few crossing experiments in the future, but first I'd like to grow some of the strains I've seen posted on here. (as a side note if anyone could refer me to a good post on avoiding self pollination while making crosses I would appreciate it, I've used the search function but i haven't found what I'm looking for)

My current goal is to make my own sambal oelek, preferably from all white peppers and then from all yellow.

I also want to say thank you to Aji Joe and pepperlover.com, over the past 2 weeks I have gone to them to get seeds. I should be receiving seeds to give me a good start indoors this winter as well as next spring.

:welcome: from sunny South Florida! :woohoo:

And I'd definitely be curious to see, as a geneticist, what you'd be able to come up with

Sounds like quite the start this winter! I decided to stick to 4 varieties this season, but I have several plants of each variety

Well hello from another central Pennsy-tuckian and PSU alum! Make sure you stop down at the downtown State College Tuesday Farmer's Market for a visit and free sampling. If you remind me, I'll hook you up with some cool seeds as well. Good luck with your studies!
