Hello from Oklahoma heat lovers!

I just moved to OK a couple months ago for work. I have noticed the soil in my area to be sandy and red. Does anyone else live in OK that could throw me some tips on what I may need to add to the soil for growing peppers?  I have a raised bed in the back yard, and have been breaking up the natural soil and am wondering what else needs to be done/added.

I am going to do a mix of 5 gallon buckets, and the raised bed.  Last year was my first year attempting at growing peppers with little luck.  Its a learning curve for sure.  I grew them in pots up in NE KS on a concrete patio which ended up burning up the peppers due to the heat being reflected up from the concrete, but it was my only location to have them.

My two main focuses this coming spring will be growing:

Ghost Peppers
Spicy Mustard Habanero

I also will have a bunch of jalapenos, some Yatzy, Thai Sun, and Prik Chi Faa

I may expand to more varieties, but that is it for now.  The rest of the hot peppers I will just have to buy until I get better at growing and learning.

Anyway, glad I found this site there is a ton of good information on here. Guess I need to keep sniffing around.  Looking to learn how to make salsas, or store any abundance of harvest for long term.  I pretty much put heat on anything. My morning breakfast burrito has a hab diced up and sprinkled across it.  Love making ghost pepper chili in the winter months, and adding fresh jalapeno slices to burgers on the grill.

Does anyone know how long a powdered pepper is good for in a tight container at room temp?

welcome to THP!
Cant help you with soil conditions and tips for OK but,as for dried powdered peppers.
I have some powder I made back in Oct of "13" and it is still great.

:welcome:  from sunny South Florida!  :woohoo:
