Hello everyone,
I have always enjoyed eating spicy foods, but over the last few years this enjoyment has turned into a near full on addiction, just ask my wife I have been reading here for the last few months for my upcoming first attempt at growing peppers from seed. Last year i bought seedlings from one of the big boxe home improvement stores and planted them in my raised garden beds in my yard. I grew cayennes, tobasco, serrano, habanero, jalapeno, and mexibell peppers. I enjoyed doing this and made a few basic hot sauces and ground up crushed red pepper as well as pickled several jars of jalapenos. This year i decided i wanted to expand my selection by growing from seed. So i bought some T5 grow lights, heating mats, and mini greenhouses and seeds. I went with jiffy pellets this year just to try something that i hoped would be easiest for my first time but may try something different next year. I am going to attempt to grow bhut jalokia, 7 pot, African Birds Eye, white and red habanero, scotch bonnet, Jamaican hot chocolate, cayenne, tobasco, jalapeno, and mucho nacho that i ordered from Tradewinds. I started the bhut and 7 pot about 2 1/2 weeks and all of the 7 pots all but a couple of the bhuts have germinated already. Unfortunately i had an accident with a fan (maybe too early and maybe too close) and managed to kill my 7 pots. I started some new from seed last night, i will chalk that one up to a beginners mistake. Anyway, started the African Birds Eye over the weekend since they take a long time to maturation. The rest of the seeds will be started in mid to late February. I know i will probably make many mistakes but look forward to learning from them, and from this great website which has already taught me so much. I hope to make many more hot sauces this year as well powders and still do some more pickling with other peppers as well as just having fresh peppers. I will gladly take advice if anyone has any, otherwise i look forward to this upcoming spring and summer. I think my plans may be a little ambitious, but hopefully it will all will work out.
Thanks to all who have already helped me out even if you didn't know it.
