My name is Jared. I have been reading from this site and glogs for a while. It has inspired me. I thought I should share my experiences. I appreciate everyone's point of view. I know there is no magic bullet for all climates around the world. I love seeing how different parts of the country or world grow peppers.
I used to work as an Aerospace gear machinist during 9-11. We had lots of mandatory hours due to Gov contracts. We made parts for the Cruise Missile among other things including F-35 and F-22 aircraft parts. I didn't realize until after I quit, that we were all zombies. Just like the walking dead. Working 80+ hours a week in 6 days. I was either working, eating, or sleeping. Coming from a machinist background I tend to over complicate and perfect stuff to much. Gardening has given me my out, and helped me to manage my stress. I grow all kinds of plants including peppers. I have a couple of co workers who also grow hot peppers.
We have lovely weather here in Southern California. Where I live we do get a number of freezing nights here, and durning the summer, weeks of 110+ deg F days.
We get dozens of earthquakes here a day. A lot are small and never felt. Last one I felt was a 4.5 last week in the middle of the night. My wife was not happy, I woke here from a sound sleep yelling earthquake.
I hope to hear from you all, and will reply to post that I can add information to. I come from a long line of farmers. My family long ago started Case tractor. I wish I had a few 100 acres to farm.
