labels Help me pick a new label for Matanzima Hot Sauce

Well, my DIY label has run its course, so I decided to hold a design competition for the new label.

Here are the candidates so far.

Which one do you like best?

I'm getting the African vibe, but not the pepper/sauce vibe. Can a designer make an African shield/spear that is also a pepper? Like the shield is the pepper, the spear is the stem.

I like #9, but 17 is pretty good also. For #17 I think I would like to see a pepper in front of the shield instead of an ELK that would be nice.

Ohh btw do you have any more sauce available. I may need to pick up a case shortly if you do.

Yes, I do have more sauce available

You can order it through the website ($80 a case, plus $15 shipping).

Where are you located? If you want to save on shipping you can pick it up in Benicia, or I can drop it off anywhere in the San Francisco north or east bay

Thanks!

I voted with a couple comments. LGHT's suggestion would work. Put a chile in front of the shield instead of the springbok. I was leaning towards the red labels.

Those are some pretty spiffy designs. Is it a design service you pay for and then get a bunch of sample labels?

Thanks for the feedback - I really appreciate it

Yes, the website is 99designs.com and I was really impressed. for $500 I got 9 designers give me more than 40 prototype labels. The winner gets the bulk of that and the website takes some commission. I feel bad for the 8 designers that didn't win though - some of them put in a lot of work for nothing.

I've picked graphic designers randomly off craigslist in the past and its been hit and miss (more miss actually), and so this is a big improvement

I'm down in Newport Beach so that's a bit of a drive for me. I'll just have to pay for the shipping.

I also liked #5 the best. A nice and simple label says a lot to me. It tells me that the sauce doesn't need a gimmick to sell. I never look twice at sauces with stupid cartoons of guys shooting flames out their butts and things like that.
