MELBOURNE: Australia is the most sinful nation on the Earth, a study has claimed as the country ranked first overall in seven deadly sins, which include lust, greed and pride.

"The country that gave the world The Body, Sylvania Waters and Les Patterson has been ranked first overall in a study of the seven deadly sins - lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy and pride," according to 'Courier Mail' newspaper that qouted the latest edition of BBC's focus magazine.

Australia took out the dubious honour in the edition of BBC's magazine of science, technology and the future.

While US topped the table for gluttony, South Korea topped the list for lust.

Iceland ranked number one for both pride and sloth and Mexico topped the list for greed, the study revealed.

Australia's biggest weakness was envy and ranked in the top 10 in all categories to give a higher aggregate than the US, Canada, Finland or Britain.

The article, which argues that people are "bad" by nature, has found social data to compare nations under the categories of wrath, sloth, pride, lust, greed, gluttony and envy. The report said the to determine country's wrongdoigns, the researchers studied levels of violent crime by comparing incidents of assault, rape and murder per 1000 people.

For sloth, they looked at the number of days off workers have. For pride the comparison was made on plastic surgery rates per capita, and for lust they looked at the amount people spent on porn.

What a load of tripe, i do not care if you have a big fancy car. I will incur the wrath of god upon you if you infer otherwise.
Furthermore i do not class those twenty beers i had earlier as "gluttony", it's just that the esky was beside me and i couldn't be bothered getting up. If you class "sinful" as having impure thoughts about my x's mum then sure you have me on BBC.... MAYBE!

Nova,

Methinks that the Brits (read prude.. this excludes our pepperhood bretheren and sisteren from UK hehehe) are jelous of you guys.
This is why BULLSHIT BROADCASTING CORPORATION came out with this survey.

NJA

Surely that only matters if the country is extremely religious or devout (or if the person reading it is). If you are in a highly secular country (not gonna mention the UK, but...), then it's really a meaningless survey.

Sin is a theological concept. More to the point, a judeo-christian concept, and one that has changed throughout the years.

Morals are more socially constructed.

I think the article was probably trying to talk about a modern, materialistic society. But labelling it Sin...well that rules out countries where Judeo-Christian faiths are not the mayor practiced religions and who have a different cultural understanding of morals...

Wow... I must be channelling library books or something...

It's un-Australian NOT to take days off work. Any one that doesn't use up some sickies is a bit suss in my book. And what's wrong with lust and gluttony? The more the better I say  And as an aside I never noticed the BBC was a sin, but it's about time that it was added to the list hehehe.

Has anyone actually ever met a 'Lustful' Korean?! I mean I'm sure they exist, but I've met quite a few in my life (Koreans, though I don't think of the 'lustful' variety) and they didn't strike me as particularly 'lustful'... maybe I'm just really ugly...:(

Actually I have moved with the Japanese and Koreans for about 15 years and to me, Japs seemed more LUSTFUL than Koreans.

My buddy went to South Korea and said people there can't even grasp the concept of pre-marital sex and teen pregnancy and it even takes several dates before you can hold hands.
All this waiting is probably why they are 'lustful'
