Admit it, you know you're crazy along with me for getting excited about worms and hot sauce!

Picked up a couple packages at the post office today-

Hot Sauce and WORMS!

Traded with DuvallDave for some more of his YUMMY Sweet Spicy Girl hot sauce. They brought some to the PNW Chilehead party and it was a hit with everyone. This time Evan remembered to ask for an autographed one for his collection. It's just like advertised...spicy and sweet...it says medium on the label, we'd put it on the light side of medium. Definitely not mild, but not as hot as many mediums on the market.

and some red wigglers from ChileAddict....THANK YOU!!! they arrived in great condition.

The squigglers' new home, complete with bread, coffe (grounds), the daily newspaper and dirt!

We covered them with a wet newspaper and put them in a spare room in the house for now.

What FUN!

OH YEAH! I think that's a Scorpion pepper out front there. First one to ripen that looks like a scorp.

Crazy?...if you start posting worms covered in HS tasting videos, then yes!!!
naw...not that!....but there was a kid in grade school who ate a slug!

I suppose there's some escargot in hot sauce somewhere, which is about the same thing. For me...oysters on the half shell with a dash of hot sauce might as well be worms with hot sauce...YUCK! For others, YUM!

A newb reading this "Hot Sauce and Worms! WooHoo!" may very well get that idea

I'm glad this post was not what i thought it was about. i thought there was a disturbing new trend coming about! wasn't about to jump on that train. even i have my limits!LOL!

Weird question but what do you use to heat up the shrink wrap on your bottles? I also cant wait to do a red wiggler farm possibly next year.

thanks Franz for answering that. There are threads about shrink bands.

Evan just watered the worms. Haven't been feeding them much yet as there was a lot of stuff in the bin for them to start with. I stirred one corner a few days ago and it still had some newspaper.

I'll give it another few days and then try to take some pics.

worm poop is some of the best compost material for plants. We'll be growing in buckets or bags again next year so as much worm castings as we can get over the winter will go into the dirt mix next year. It's also a good way to compost veggie scraps and bread.

Plus... when other kids come to visit, I can dig up some worms and chase them around the yard~~~ ;)

Nodding.....nodding.....

But why, darlin', did you have to ship in the worms? Do you not have worms in the PNW? ;)

I'm visualizing opening the box at the kitchen bar.........and laughing.

 Of course we do, Pauly, I even saved some from when we moved the plants and pulled back the black landscape fabric. They were some of the biggest, fattest worms I've seen. But SalsaKid was convinced Red Wigglers are the best for making compost, and when Chileaddict offered....he was thrilled. Timing was perfect since the 'Kid had been bugging me to get a worm farm going. I kept trying to convince him we could just use the ones from the yard, but Red Wigglers were better.

Besides, if you ever had to dig anything in our yard, you'd know why I am NOT going to try and dig some up. It's rocks with just enough dirt to grow grass.

and yes, I did open the package on the kitchen bar. And I plan on having some chile plants in the living room over the winter. After all, Patrick and Celeste (and Iggy also??? I think) have tarantulas in there living rooms and dining rooms. What's so strange about a living room full of overwintering chile plants and a worm bin?

I just think it's great that we get excited about worms~ When the bin gets full, I'll split the colony and send some to you. They're supposed to be the best for in the planting areas. ;) Just another secret tool for the "armchair gardener"....automatic fertilizers!

salsalady,

As per a farmer making his own compost , used tea leaves make great food for worms. (In India, used tea leaves have leftover sugar because tea is prepared with sugar and milk boiling together).

Never tried it though)

Just trying to share the luv, amigo!

Although I'm sure some would question if sending someone a box of worms is "luv" or not~~~guess one just has to be there to appreciate it.

Pssst, Pauly-
I have a little batch of green stuff brewed up and a couple others. You boys gonna cook it up again soon? I'll send you mine if you send me yours~~~~~;)

You know, I was just thinking I needed to get started on my 2010 batches. ;) I mainly made powder this year (nearly 3 POUNDS), but I still have several gallon-sized bags of orange habs in the deep freeze.... :woohoo:

a sauce I made with green chiles (an assortment of bhuts, fatalii, 7 pod and scorps), onion and garlic.

The frost was coming on, so we picked all the pods off the outside plants. The rest are still in the greenhouse w/ a heater.

Gotta go to work now, but I'll post a picture later-
